On WJOX this morning, Cole Cubelic said he had conversations over the weekend that "100%, no doubt" confirmed for him that Kalen DeBoer was always Alabama's top target in its coaching search.

He said there was no situation where Sarkisian or Lanning or anyone else turned Alabama down. Alabama identified DeBoer as the coach it wanted, and Greg Byrne got him signed in less than a week.

He said there's speculation that Lanning MIGHT have been 1A and DeBoer 1B IF Lanning didn't have a massive buyout, but due to the buyout he was never considered a viable candidate. DeBoer was the top target, and there wasn't a second option under consideration.

Everything else, according to Cole, was Jimmy Sexton conducting a master class in getting his clients paid even more money.

I don't think he knows his elbow from his arse hole, but sounds good. If it isn't the case, it is still good.

My FSU buddies swear up and down Norvell had an offer on the table and turned it down

There's no convincing that bunch that they didn't belong in the playoff, wouldn't have won it if they had been put in, Bama paid their way past FSU into the CFP, and Mike Norvell turned down Alabama to stay at FSU.

Auburn fans are still celebrating because apparently Lanning, Sark and Norvell all turned Bama down. DeBoer was our 4th choice.

They call him Husky Harsin. DeBoer and Harsin are such lazy comparisons and wishful thinking. It’s not remotely the same. Also Harsin failed because he was at Auburn and had zero booster support. DeBoer is at Alabama with a loaded roster. Full support. Big difference. DeBoer actually builds programs as well. Harsin was gifted Boise St and only made them worse.

They have a full dedicated thread to both of our coaches. They have cute nicknames for DeBoer and Nate. They have more interest in rooting on Bama’s downfall than they have interest in rooting on Auburn.

Man I hope we beat them this Wednesday. The melt will be glorious.

People keep saying he was the 4th or 5th option because of things they read on social media. Realistically, you're not signing someone that far down the list in less than 48 hours.

Jimmy Sexton was in Tuscaloosa for a couple days, his goal was to finalize the Saban retirement, work on DeBoer's new deal, and get his other clients paid in the meantime.

Honestly, this seems pretty obvious to me. You don't finish a coaching search that quickly if you're interviewing multiple candidates.

Less than a week? Hell, Byrne stated and should brag that it took 45 hours, less than two days.

I'm certain much was done to 'prep' this but it shows how a machine can work, when needed.

I loved watching the tRant and SECRant go wild with number of rejection count.

I mean, Byrne was in Washington the night that Saban announced his retirement I think. Seemed to move pretty quick on him.

I believe it. I read somewhere right after Saban retired that he was someone Byrne had his eye on.

Greg told everyone to ignore any rumors and if it doesn’t come directly from him then it’s just a rumor. He also said that he knew this day was coming and had been prepared for it for a few years now. He already knew his target and the chances of actually being able to land his target. It takes several days to vet a candidate, a few more to gather up the BOT and have them vote & sign contracts, etc. The fact that Greg had his man in less than 48 hours proves that DeBoer was his man all along.

"Top target" is such a message board fueled non-sense label . It just does not matter.

Post this on the Rant. I’d like to see usual know nothings argue against what Cole said

I believe 100 percent that's the case honestly. Sexton doing his things per usual and bleeding other universities dry.
