Agreed. He has done nothing to excite anyone. Everything he has done since the hire has been meh. From the coaching staff, to the DC coordinator hire. You can see how the players feel how they are hitting the portal and/or losing 2025 recruits seemingly every hour on the hour. Byrnes is a west coast guy, who hired a west coach guy.

Why not do what UGA did when hiring Kirby, and go directly to Georgia and hire Schuman. There would at least be something to be excited about.

Kalen DeBoer at best was the safe choice until he is ran out of town in 2/3 years, and a actual hire can be made.

Boz,
I’m not a technology guy, so I don’t know how to DM. I appreciate all the info you have brought to the board and the good man you seem to be, but I am going to pull back from the keyboard for a while. Watching the crumbling of our program, and seeing what NIL and the transfer portal has done to college football, especially to UA presently, is a little too much right now. I support UA 100% and will be back some time soon, but for my own health, I have to take a break from things.

If wheels fall off in 2-3 years will get ugly. At least Byrne will get shown the door with him if so

A few players don't make our program, no matter how good they are. We'll be fine.

Take a look in the middle of October. We'll have a better view at that point.

Holy Hell man! It's not that serious. Just ignore the Rant and everything is fine. Remember the days before Saban. It won't be that bad. Isn't it at least a little bit exciting to see what this staff can do and the uncertainty of everything?

Mitchell* has no tape and a clear starting role, there’s no incentive to leave

Amen to that! I’m over the sadness, the sick feelings and the fricking anger! Why should I waste my emotions on some spoiled arse teenager who is willing to throw his teammates under the bus for financial gain! frick them! I hope they end up broker than a crack whore and end up having to suck dick for food.

I hope so but he was highly recruited with years of eligibility left.
Downs had a guaranteed starting job here and may leave. Sure, he’s got one year of tape but…
Besides, who says Thompson doesn’t start next year and then portal out?

The more I think about this the more I realize this really hurts more public perception wise. I don't care how good Downs is...no safety is worth QB money. Frick him.

I can promise you if our offense is elite this year then Downs playing safety or Tony Mitchell playing safety won't make that big of a difference.

He's a great player but ppl acting like he's worth QB money are paying way too much and will feel stupid down the road.

There is an easy fix but it is the one thing college administrators hate: call the student-athletes employees and contract their labor at a fair market rate. Colleges are too dependent on the exploitative labor arrangement of offering scholarships that are stipulated to provide labor to the institution that exceeds the value of the scholarship. College athletic departments would be fine with this arrangement. College administrators fear that this arrangement would undermine their broader scheme to acquire cheap, underpaid labor to keeps their operations afloat.

Most scholarship athletes don't play football and most football players play at programs that don't make money.

When the NCAA finally brought the hammer on Bama in 2002 the roster stuck with Coach Hold the Rope.

Think about that.

I mean there's nothing they can do. They don't have the relationship with downs that Saban or T Rob had. They literally can't make that time up. What do you think they should be able to do?

“Easy fix”

Buddy, you should do a quick financial analysis of that. You’d effectively kill sports for a couple hundred thousand kids, who use said sports to get a college education

The last thing the government wants is a complete collapse of one of its major education aid programs. D1 College football is a drop in the bucket in terms of players (10K) relative to the 550K student athletes out there, and an even smaller share is profitable programs

How is that an easy fix? You really think bringing on anti-trust lawsuits is a solution? They could seek an exemption from Congress, but have you seen Congress lately? Those frickers couldn't even agree that 2+2=4, much less take on a project like that. It's done. College athletics, as we knew them, are over. A revenue sharing model can slow down the death spiral for a while, but we're all really just talking about ways to stick toothpaste back into the tube at this point.

Noooooo but that goes against the “college sports is literal slavery” narrative. And also why the frick would a guy sign a contract with a school when there’s no need for him to be locked in anywhere and he gets money from a source other than the school itself?
