Yeah I don’t get it either I obviously hope it doesn’t work out but I don’t know what better hire they could have reasonably made.

It absolutely is the best hire Bama could have reasonably made

Great hire...sounds like he was the top choice. Offense should be fun.

We will never know, but there are multiple people who said no already so who was really the top choice

Do you think he is one of the current 10 best coaches in D1? Remember that he is replacing Nick Saban, right?
After Washington’s most recent season I think that argument can absolutely be made. I also think ranking him any lower than top 15 is wrong, so they absolutely could have done worse than Deboer. They could have promoted Rees

It's literally the best hire they could have done. I think it was crazy they even entertained Dan Lanning considering he got beat twice by DeBoer.

From the PAC12...very overrated conference

beating Oregon twice

such an overrated PAC12 team

I don't think he is a bad hire but i don't these 2 points prove he is a good hire like you think they do

Auburn is paying a bunch of trolls to bash Bama right now. They'll be gone soon.

Yes, the Aubs equating him to Harsin is laughable. Harsin would not work, recruit, develop relationships with High School coaches. Deboer developed Penix at Indiana and got him to transfer. Looks to be a coach that can develop talent and loyalty.

His teams are 25-3 over the past two seasons and he had one of the top five offenses in the country this year

That’s the exact same thing Ed Orgereon did at lsu in 2018 and 2019.

You don't have a clue if it's a good hire or a bad one. No one does. Your opinion is the same as everyone else's opinion. Just an opinion.

He may have a great first season because of the roster Saban left him. Or, he may bomb. One thing is for sure. No one knows.

What about Utah this year? Oregon a third time in 2022? Texas a second time in 2022? Oregon State twice the past two years? I’m not saying he’s a home run hire either, but give the man his flowers. He brought Michael Penix with him from Indiana and turned him into a Heisman finalist while winning a lot of games against quality opponents.

I'm really happy Bama got their 5th option. He's a really good coach.

We literally only showed interest in coaches who either made the playoffs or nearly made it. What more could you ask for? Ohio St, Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma had to hire coordinators the last time they had an opening. Brian Kelly is 62 and DeBoer already has more playoff wins than him.

I'm not saying he's a bad hire, but I also reject the term great or homerun hire. Not saying it could be that, but let's watch what he does.

It appears to be a good hire, but can he recruit at the level fans and boosters are accustomed to?

And how is his offense going to look without Penix..in the SEC. If Michigan totally neutralized their entire offense then what is it going to look like against the best D linemen in the country every week?

i think there's an argument to be made that only 1 person out there is a better hire and that person wasn't available.

I agree, it's a very similar hire.
