Are people really pretending Deboer is a bad hire?

He just took Washington of all teams to the national championship after beating Oregon twice and Texas once. His teams are 25-3 over the past two seasons and he had one of the top five offenses in the country this year. By that logic, Brian Kelly to LSU was a bad hire also

Yeah I don’t get it either

I obviously hope it doesn’t work out but I don’t know what better hire they could have reasonably made.

It’s a pretty good hire.

We’ll see how recruiting goes and how he handles the bama pressure cooker.

Reasonable? Yes, but if we are talking about better coaches out there in college football then no there are several.

He's a good coach. It's a good hire on paper. The only question is how well he will recruit.

We could have re-hired Saban and this board would try to say it was a bad hire lol.

Great hire...sounds like he was the top choice. Offense should be fun.

Recruiting is a valid concern. But for what was available, I'm very happy with this hire

I'm really happy Bama got their 5th option. He's a really good coach.

I think it's a fine hire. I think the PAC props him up a bit, but it's good.

I don't think he's considerably better than someone like Kiffin, and I think it'll be interesting to gauge not hiring Dabo (the only elite coach on the board) going forward.

I'm not saying he's a bad hire, but I also reject the term great or homerun hire. Not saying it could be that, but let's watch what he does.

It appears to be a good hire, but can he recruit at the level fans and boosters are accustomed to?

Sure there are, but who of Sark, Kirby, Dabo, etc. wants to leave their current blue-blood schools where they’ve already proven they can make the playoff to risk career suicide at Alabama? Clemson isn’t a blue-blood but point still stands. Deboer is about as good of a hire they could have realistically made, but because they didn’t hire Kirby Smart, some on this board will act like Alabama’s days as a top program are finished. Just interesting to see opposing fans hinge on every decision Alabama makes

Do you think he is one of the current 10 best coaches in D1?

Remember that he is replacing Nick Saban, right?

It’s a pretty good hire.
It was always going to be a pretty good hire.

AD gets an A+, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to translate to success.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to welcome him to the league with an L.

Better hire than Lanning would have been.

Kirby and Sark were off the table. Urban was off the table. Lanning and Norvell said no. Kiffin was apparently not an option.

After that it was DeBoer or Dabo. I think DeBoer is a better option than Dabo, but he's still somewhat unproven.

Washington won 8 games this year by one score. If the ball bounces the other way and they drop just 2 or 3 of those games, I don't think DeBoer is even considered for this job.
