I'm on the Deboer train too. I listened to a radio special about him in the lead up to the playoffs & got interested & started researching him. He's just been a winner his whole life. Whenever he's gotten an opportunity, he's taken advantage of it.

Either him or Lane Kiffin bc frick it.

I feel like it's possibly going to be someone from the NFL. Maybe Brian Johnson.

Money isn’t an issue for him. He doesn’t need more money and I don’t think he made this decision hastily. He’s never been someone who walked back a decision(Miami situation aside but that’s a different kind of thing).

I don’t think he’d be retiring unless he knew he was done. I’m happy for him. I don’t think he’d come back for 50m a year. He wants to enjoy life.

Why would Clemson let their coach use their jet to interview with a different school?

He's currently interviewing for head coaching jobs in the NFL, so unlikely.

He said in the interview that he couldn’t keep saying he would be here 3-4 more years, he started feeling like it was a year to year basis and he didn’t want to run a program where kids didn’t know when he was retired. He knew eventually he would come to this so he ripped the band aid off

If we can't get someone serious who is going to keep the ball rolling then Kiffin would be the next best thing. He may crash and burn, but he's going to be entertaining no matter what.

Coaching in the NFL is completely different from coaching in college. I honestly question how much impact an NFL coach has on their team. We see Belichick, supposedly the GOAT at that level, reduced to garbage once he loses his players. And the coach typically doesn't even choose his players in the NFL.

We should tell Phil Knight to give us Lanning or we’re switching to an Adidas school

Here me out folks. As our next head coach, a Saban/Elephant Clone Hybrid. Not only do we get the mind of the greatest Coach ever but a live mascot that will strike fear into everyone. Bring on Sabaderm.

Bo Nix using his 8th year of eligibility to lead Kiffin's Tide to a natty.

So one thing I'd like to muse on is the importance of ties to the South.

I do not think that is really an imperative in the hire. It is imperative that the head coach have a solid understanding of modern recruiting and the capacity to hire philosophical fits that can recruit our primary zones in recruiting. Additionally, the head coach needs to be a closer on critical recruits: willing to do the retail politics with various stakeholders in communities that help secure signees and, obviously, a good living room pitch for the family.

None of that has anything to do with knowing the area. It is everything about personality, disposition, and hustle. Knowing the region is up to the recruiting coordinator and to a lesser extent the position coaches.

Bryan Harsin's failure was that he really had no context for coaching outside of Boise State. He was at Arkansas State for a year or two then bounced back to Boise. He brought his potato posse with him and only made passing overtures to staffing for recruiting the region. Those non-BSU connected coaches were either marginalized or actively pushed out in his short tenure for more potato posse. Furthermore, Harsin was not the choice of the powers that be on the Plains and they basically vote-of-no-confidence'd him on day 0.

The critical thing with DeBoer is knowing his philosophy for recruiting and staff. If Byrne thinks he can do the recruiting business then I think his results on the football field speaks for itself.

I know he's Saban's agent, but he also happens to be Norvell's agent
