Only boomers and people from those 2 states care about that rivalry

I know, I'm even surprised that it's even on TV

It's undoubtedly a great rivalry. The fact that both schools are among the 3 winningest programs of all time makes it big.

Having said that, the fact that it's been so incredibly lopsided particularly since 2000 takes a lot of the shine off the game. Ohio State has dominated the series since 2000 with a 17-5 record over that time.

The Alabama/Auburn rivalry by contrast has been incredibly even and competitive by comparison with Alabama leading the series with a 12-11 record since 2000 and a 21-19 record since 1983 (since the first season after Bear Bryant retired).

The iron bowl was better in legion. Not saying Birmingham or the stadium is better but 50 50 split was always a cool setup.

It’s the best rivalry in sports. State pride is on the line. It’s objectively pure hatred that goes beyond any single state.

It's usually a nationally relevant matchup because the Big Ten sucks shite, so they'll often be in the national title discussion. Seriously, Penn State is the only other program that is earnestly attempting to hang with those schools and probably could if they gave up on their loser head coach. The rest of the schools live by the mantra "it's not who wins the games, it's who had the most fun!" when it comes to football.

On what planet is such a one sided rivalry considered great?

I judge a rivalry by its level of singular obsessive hate.

There are Auburn fans that hate UGA more than Bama, there are Bama fans that hate TN worse than Auburn.

There are GA fans(albeit old ones) that hate GT more than Florida and UF fans that hate FSU worst than Georgia.

There are no Buckeyes who hate anyone worse than Michigan and Michigan may have a halfway rivalry with Sparty and ND…but they haaaaaate Ohio State.

The only other two that meet that level of undistracted hate are Miss/Miss State and SC/Clemson.

By what measure? It isn’t particularly competitive….Michigan has a sizeable lead.

It’s a big deal in Michigan and Ohio but it’s no bigger than Alabama and Tennessee or Georgia Florida and it ain’t close to the Iron Bowl…. I will bet that family reunions in May in Neither Ohio or Michigan are as focused on the game as reunions in Alabama are

tOSU-MICHIGAN is the most watched rivalry matchup in college football history, single season & cumulative. GA-FL, BAMA-TN don't even hit the radar & the Iron Bowls avg year is 20% less viewers. 4 out of top 10 all time watched regular season CFB games are tOSU & UM (2 of the top 3). Have you ever looked at a US population map?

6 of the last 20 years the tOSU-UM game has featured both teams in top 5.

Don't know wtf you are looking @ but it's comical.

I can name about 4 or 5 rivalry games off the top of my head that is better. I would much rather go watch the Iron Bowl or the Egg Bowl than Michigan and OSU
wow, what a homer comment.
As an LSU fan, I can tell you I was aware of Ohio State-Michigan before I knew what the Iron Bowl was, and very few peole care about the Egg Bowl in reality.

I like the USC-UCLA game, was surprised to see it on last week. As for OU-Texas... I always preferred OU-Nebraska. I hate that being gone.

It is fair to note that I regularly break bread with family who root and graduated from Auburn University. They're good people. Don't let the game come between family.

If I saw the Tennessee team bus on fire, I wouldn't piss on it to put it out.

Alabama and Tennessee used to have the same rivalry.
Now it’s pretty much a L for us
The same could be said about the Tennessee Ga rivalry but not so much anymore.
But hey at least we are spending the money.

I've lived in Columbus for over 2.5 years now and I can say for certain, this rivalry is one of the biggest. These people genuinely hate each other.

Iron Bowl, then The Game.

After that, for B1G fans, it's the genuine hatred for the SEC because deep down they know they'll never be as strong of a conference. It's quite a predicament

So we are talking about a rivalry between 2 teams that have 4 nattys between them and has overwhelmingly been dominated by one team and that’s after OSU went on a what 15 game win streak in the series? 6 out of the last 20 years have featured both teams in the top 5? Damn Bama and both LSU and UGA has done that regularly. Back to the titles Bama, LSU, and UGA won 4 titles in the last 5 minutes. Even Auburn has more appearances in the title game than Michigan. Won as many as Michigan also and it wasn’t 20 or 30 years ago either. Thanks for proving my point that Michigan and OSU is way overhyped.

Admittedly, Ohio State/Michigan is bigger nationally but Alabama/Auburn has been a WAY more competitive rivalry the last 25 years and even the last 40 years.

Ohio State/Michigan - 17-5 in favor of tOSU since 2000

Alabama/Auburn - 12-11 in favor of Alabama since 2000

Alabama/Auburn - 21-19 in favor of Alabama since 1983 (last 40 games)

Agreed. OU/Texas and Bama/Auburn are much better than Michigan/Ohio State.

Big 10 football is boring.
