Hard to believe for a skill position player. Jaylen Waddle had the same procedure in mid-October of 2020. He tried to play in the national title game against Ohio State over two months later. Still a visible limp. Nothing more than a decoy.

But that was the fake season, that doesn't count

Tightrope surgery works differently before and after 2020?

He's in non contact jersey at practice. He's running without a hitch.

My guess?

Not Saturday.

If we lose Saturday, then Tennessee.

If we don't lose Saturday, maybe SECCG.

Waddle had a broken ankle. He might have had the same surgery but a very different and more severe injury.

Cam Newton had the exact same surgery and played 2 weeks later. It's not out of the question.

Heard from a reliable source he’s good to go. I imagine the spread will move up -13 Georgia.

Not in a million years does he suit up again unless we make the playoffs

What was Bowers injury?

Ole Miss has a guy playing receiver with a broken hand. So nothing would surprise me.

It wouldn't surprise me if he got some decoy reps since it's our last home game and likely his last game in Sanford, perhaps to get a final send-off cheer from the fans.

Almost be surprising if he doesn't considering Smart's mention of his recovery and the language used. It is unlikely he plays more than one snap but it almost seems like a sure thing.

He will most likely be back with limited snaps by the UT game and GT and full strength for SEC CG if UGA makes it....the UT game was always the quickest time frame that seemed realistic...

Nah bro. Like a dozen SEC Rant posters have heard he is out sprinting Usain Bolt in full pads right now and he ankle is so healed that he looked like early 2000s Allen Iverson the way he was crossing over DBs in press coverage.

I have to assume this is being floated by UGA to make OM over-prepare for BB.

It is being floated because Bowers has been practicing with the team (non-contact... but with the team and not with injured players on the side).

Ole Miss was the earliest return date.
I do expect him on the field. But not in a meaningful snap.
Fwiw, it wouldn't be unprecedented for him to play. It is rare for a non-contact player to play. But it has happened once that I can recall in the past.

I appreciate his loyalty to UGA, I really do. But this would be a huge mistake if so

Hate to see what happens when he takes the first low barrel roll tackle. It would be near criminal to rush him out early.

Kirby would not play the guy unless the guy and the doctor said he was ready.

Especially since the guy who has been playing in his spot looks just as good.

I think people need to realize that the point of the tightrope surgery (as opposed to just waiting for the ankle sprain to heal naturally) is that the surgery adds stability to the ankle that makes it unlikely to be reinjured. The time frame for recovery is to get to the point that range of motion is back to normal so that cuts don't hurt. Not to have stability in the ankle to prevent reinjury. That's there from day one.

The surgery is minor and by getting it done you prevent reinjury. It's not like a broken bone where the ankle needs time to heal. The ligaments are generally healed after two weeks or less. Without the surgery, the stability is weakened so that there's a huge risk of respraining the high ankle sprain. With the surgery, the added stability means that it's stronger than it was originally.

I don't buy it and won't believe it until I see it. You better pump the brakes on that.
