Theories on What’s Wrong With Gus?

Dude would make one heck of a psychological study.
Why do contract extensions give him coaching amnesia?
Is there a more hot & cold coach in the history of college football?
Goes from almost beating Oklahoma to getting run out of his own “Bounce House” by Neal Brown and the Mountaineers.
UCF gave him the kiss of death a few weeks ago and he has tanked.
And I’m not bashing him, I like him now that he isn’t driving Auburn fans mad on his volatility coaster.
It’s just baffling.

Visor is too tight. Brain doesn’t work.

Average HC, one great year, 2013

One trick pony.
High school coach.
Once defensive coaches figured out that passing game is bubble, tunnel, 4 verticals 80% and the run game was 80% inside zone, they literally call his plays at line of scrimmage like Jeremy Pruitt did.
Nick Marshall and Tre Mason with Prosch were perfect in 2013.

Gus recruited pretty well early on and still couldn't get us much beyond 8-4. We had several top 10 classes and I believe one top 5. His last couple of years he just mailed it in on the crootin trail.
It was time to move on.

He had one good year with all of the studs that Chizik, Luper, and Trooper recruited.

Too many people like Lanier are okay with 8-5 and flash in the pan moments.

2017 was a pretty good year. Kerryon doesn’t get hurt…

Thought he could make WR's out of anyone of most anyone.
Saban stopped the HUNH.
Couldn't sweet talk the O'linemen.
Everyone could read him like a picture book.
And him and Kristi must throw down pretty hard with each contract extension.

It appears that he has stopped chewing gum and picking his nose on the sidelines during a game. Looks like it has disrupted his play calling.

Picked the wrong QB to run with this year. Plumlee is a bum. Castellanos is carrying Boston College. If they kept and started Castellanos they would be sitting on 1 loss this year.

I think you’re right- he picked the wrong QB. He has a nack for that the older he gets. Or he picks the right one but doesn’t have the line for him.

That’s a huge assumption that Castellanos would be doing the same thing under Gus.

Bingolio.
BTW Plumlee did pretty decent last year. He is just going through the same regressive song and dance that Nix and Stidham experienced.

As a coach he had few ethics regarding player health. He gave Mason brain damage running him so much and then ran Kerryon so far in the ground the mans body should have been collecting social security when he showed up for the draft.

This is so dumb. You should apologize. If Kerryone stayed off the video games and lifted more he might actually stay healthy.
Kerryon was made of glass and Gus does not have to apologize for using his RB anymore than any other coach trying to win the SEC.
Quinshon Judkins had 274 carries as a true freshman and nobody tries to bury Kiffin with stupid narratives. Take your tears elsewhere.

I second this.
One of the great what-ifs imo is what could have been had Pettway been around, giving us that other much needed RB as the year wound down.

What would be the opposite of a QB whisperer?
