Because we are scared, obviously. We don't want to face Texas...the school that has averaged 5.5 losses a year over the last 13 years. You are terrifying.

Who wouldn't be afraid to face a school that won a title as recent as 18 years ago?

Risk vs Reward. 8 game schedule is not going to keep SEC out of Playoff Spots. But 9 games might knock a 3rd SEC team out.

Because why give ESPN more content if they won’t pay for it?

Makes no sense. TV deal would pay out more for 8 additional SEC games.

Well ESPN doesn’t agree

SC plays their 8 game SEC schedule every year. In addition we play perennial top 10 Clemson out of conference every year. Most years we play an additional Power 5 game, such as NC this year. Future schedules have series with VA Tech, Miami, and NC. We already play 10 power 5 teams and have a top 5 toughest schedule pretty much every year. Shouldn't have to add an 11th or drop OOC Power 5 games because other teams aren't already scheduling 10 and need to be forced into it.

If schools are so eager for more competition they have full control over 4 games in their schedule. They can schedule 2 OOC Power 5 teams, no one is preventing them.

That's only been done once in NCAAF history. And Bama swept

Because schools are holding out for better financial terms when losing the money from a home game.

SEC vs SEC is less content than SEC vs OOC.

So weak. These teams and fanbases are so fragile that they’d rather have an extra win against a cupcake than a possible loss to a legitimate team?

You have no right to talk about a fragile team when Horns Down sends your players into melt down mode and the other team ends up with a 15 yard penalty!

I have seen so many other teams in the SEC take that kind ribbing and not give it a bit of attention. The first that comes to mind is the Gator chomp, opposing teams do it all the time to Fl, and to their credit, their team doesn't cry and complain.

I think every SEC school should get a P5 rival for late November. 2 P5 OOC games each year. One in September and one in November. I’d like to see this in addition to a 9 game conference schedule.

You should have to play 9 conference opponents. And one P5 OOC opponent. It should be mandated.

I'm confused why a Texas fan would want to take their record from 6-6 to 5-7?

We will start when you start. GT is a CUSA level team so they don't count.

Live and learn

ACC and SEC were basically the same conference originally. Hence they have strong inter conference rivals like ...

Auburn = Taters
Florida = Free Shoes U + Miami
Georgia = Georgia Tech + Clemson
Kentucky = was Indiana, now Louisville
LSU = historically Tulane, now they have scheduled OOC
Missouri = historical kansas
SC = Taters + Tar Heels
UT = original ACC schools
Vanderbilt = Wake, Service Academies, and other ACC schools

Since lots of history (which matters here) and lots of gate receipts coupled with donor dollars, going to 9 games means the probable end of the revenue streams they generate.

B1G - B12 - B8 - SWC - PAC have no similar games across their teams. I would add that many lesser games played are tied to old SoCon schools and helps their bottom line too.

The 2020 season with the 10 game all sec schedule was pretty awesome.

The 9 game schedule would help Georgia’s and to a lesser extent Florida’s home season ticket (FSU sucks less than Tech).

Now we have 4SEC home, Tech and 3 SEC Away, FL in JAX. On even years we have 3 SEC Home, Tech Home, 4 SEC Away and JAX…for 4 home games out of 9 played. Just to get to 6 home games, 2 of the other 3 have to be home games.

With the 3/6 Model, GA and Florida get 4SEC Home, 4 SEC AWAY, JAX in 9 games. On the years you get Tech/FSU away you can schedule a P5 home game and the next year you get P5 Away, Tech/FSU at home.and one directional at home for 6 home games.

Every year GA and FL get 6 home games. 5 of which are P5, JAX, a P5 Road game and 4 SEC Road games. That so much better than our current home ticket package.

And it makes scheduling P5 OOC because you can do it in back to back years.

I'm not against more conference games. I'd love if we got to play only a conference schedule and just played 15 games.

But the logic I saw that got the idea squashed at the SEC meetings was that the SEC has the most watched product in college football with a TV contract that is already agreed upon. So they won't add the extra game and give the networks an extra 8 games without being compensated for it. The current contract will either have to be re-done, or they will add a 9th game when the new TV deal is done and negotiate the price from there.

I get it that the SEC doesn't want to give away its product for free, but from a fan perspective, it kinda sucks.
