What is the reason that Most SEC schools don't want a 9 game conference schedule?

And why on earth do some fans want to keep it an 8 game conference schedule? You really would rather play a directional school in November as opposed to a conference team? It's going to be a decade before your team is going to be able to travel to all the other SEC schools to play.

Props to UGA,Florida, LSU, Mizzou, and aggies for not being pussies on this issue.

They don't even have to come to the SEC to be humbled. TCU has replaced them as the best football program in Texas.

As a season ticket holder, I want 10 conference games.

I’m not sure most do, just enough to not pass the resolution. It probably has a lot to do with bowl eligibility and playoff chances.

I did like how Saban was ALL for 9 games until he saw his permanent 3 opponents

Adding a 9th game won’t get rid of the directional school game it will get rid of UF-FSU, USC Clemson, UGA GT etc

You should have to play 9 conference opponents. And one P5 OOC opponent. It should be mandated.

Makes no sense. TV deal would pay out more for 8 additional SEC games.

So weak. These teams and fanbases are so fragile that they’d rather have an extra win against a cupcake than a possible loss to a legitimate team?

I don't think that was agreed on with the SEC. I would prefer 9 games for sure, but understand the reasoning if payouts don't go up.

The small schools have to have those games.

When Podunk U trots out on the field at Neyland, Bryant-Denny, or some other large school. They get a huge (to them) payday. One or two of those games per year keep their program financially viable.

We can't lose those small programs.

That’s bullshite. If that were the case, they why have other P5 conferences adopted 9 game schedules without issues?

If you’re scared, just admit it.

I honestly don’t care

But it’s easy for a fan of a Texas longhorn team that has been playing in the weakest conference in college football (and still averaging only 6 wins) for the last 10 years to criticize I guess

And if we played in a soft conference like the BIG 12 we might do it. But we are in the SEC, so here we are. I suspect Texas will feel the same in a couple of years.

9games will happen. Y’all calm down.

But we are the premier league and we have leverage over espn.

You don’t go offering 9 games unless espn offers more money. And espn is not offering the money.
Plus, our 8 games are tougher than everyone else’s 9 games. Keep that in mind.

You can’t just roll over for the networks.
I agree with the conference on this.

So you feel that staying at 8 games because teams are scared of potentially catching another L. I figured, just wanted to understand that.
