I guarantee LSU fans will be throwing Skenes under the bus if hes not effective today, and frankly that will be completely unfair to him.

The way a lot of you have acted on this board regarding this series has been disgusting.

100%. It will be up to Skenes. If he says he’s ready, people would be ignorant to believe Jay J. Would keep him off the mound in the final game of the CWS.

Dude you are talking about a man not a “kid”. This whole aspect of treating young adults as toddlers is why our culture sucks arse. If the guy wants to play and is clearly healthy then great. Stop trying to virtue signal as the moral high ground.

Are there any news reports of him being injured or unable to play? It’s the CWS finals so you know he wants to go. If he can’t because his arm isn’t feeling great and he doesn’t want to push it then no problem. I’ve yet to see any receipts on this being a story though.

If he throws and is clearly “off” then the staff can make that decision if it happens. I don’t think anyone would be upset at him either way. He has been a key to why they are playing today.

If he wants to go, let him go.

But you and I both know very well what will happen on here if things go south.

LSU doesn’t have a choice. Disadvantage of going on game 8 vs 5 in CWS. We’ll see some combination of Skenes, Hurd, and Cooper.

If LSU is nursing a close lead or needs to stay within striking distance during the 6th - 8th inning, I think we will almost certainly see him.

Personally, I think it’s this option.

But the more time that passes from the 3rd inning yesterday until now, I think about how Jay Johnson has shown in his two seasons at LSU that he does not ask the fans and media for their opinions in how he should coach his team. Jay Johnson does what he thinks is best for his team and doesn’t care about the outside noise.

So I’ve gone from saying “no way to Skenes starts” to thinking “I won’t be surprised if he starts”.

I think most real fans will say “damn that guy threw a shite ton and it finally caught up to him today… helluva effort.”

I’m sure you will have some trolls say some shite regardless of what happens as this tRant.

I think most would be upset if he starts and does his job only for his relief pitcher to drop the ball and give up the game. This would result in more fireworks from the LSU crowd. “Dude went out there and pitched his guts out only for the rest of the team to suck it up and let him down.”

Or if he comes in as relief with them down by 1, shuts down the Gators, but the offense can’t capitalize and get the win. That would suck arse.

He meant middle relief or setup.

I’d rather have him closing. He can be more aggressive and you don’t have to worry about pitch count at that point.

Edit: why I wouldn’t start him is you do have to protect his future. He may get on the bump and not want to come off. Hate to see him frick up his arm, however small the possibility, and lose out on the potential of a few hundred million vs thew few he will get when drafted.

Skenes will pitch because they need him to. LSU will hit better. As per usual, it will come down to the later innings when the bullpens get called upon.

He's never done 3 days rest at LSU. Not sure if he's ever done it in college? My guess is the coach will leave it up to him and he'll go for it.

He did it a handful of times (as a closer) at air force.

Skenes - Start
Hurd - Middle Innings
Cooper - Closing

Herring may see a few batters in a tight situation.

Assuming he gets 40 or so pitches.

He’s at 243 over the last nine days.

True, but he also had a run over 29 days last year where he threw nearly 600 pitches.

04/14 - 109 pitches
04/22 - 110 pitches
04/29 - 126 pitches
05/06 - 106 pitches
05/13 - 123 pitches

TOTAL: 574 pitches

And fwiw, his best start over that stretch was his best, going 8 innings and only giving up 1 run and striking out 10.

This year, he's gone

06/02 - Tulane - 124 pitches
06/10 - Kentucky - 101 pitches
06/17 - Tennessee - 123 pitches
06/22 - Wake Forest - 120 pitches
06/26 - Florida - ????

TOTAL: 468 pitches, so far

Why not have 2 guys warm up to start, see how they are doing and make the call? Seems to be a bad idea to allow Skenes to start without a quick back up plan if he isn’t ready. If UF jumps on Skenes that’s going to be a huge momentum shift.

At the same time, if you don’t start skenes and he comes in later and throws some great relief it would be a mistake.

As long as he is up for it, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t give him the start. Or like I said, warm him up and watch him close and see how he looks. It’s going to be obvious quickly. I don’t see why he couldn’t go 50-75 pitches fairly easily. Just have him go 4-5 innings. Even 3 innings of great stuff is fine. It’s the last game of the season.

Nah. He will close tonight. LSU played this series perfectly (pitching wise)
