No Hotels in Lexington?

Ben Upton Tweet
Just came across this tweet. Apparently there are no available hotels within an hour of Lexington due to a country music festival. Visiting teams are having to stay in dorms. Shitty situation having to share a room sleeping in a twin size bed the night before the biggest game of your life.
Edited to add a picture.

Idk. It's baseball. In the minors, they'll be racking up commercial airline and bus mileage while not living in luxury accommodations to meet teams operating budgets.
They'll survive.

They have the option to not share. I don’t think it’s that bad.

I’m going to be out of town all weekend and live less than 5 miles from the park. Wonder how much I could get.
In all honesty though some of the dorms are nicer than hotels. Twin bed is tough but they’re all Tempurpedic.

Committee clearly prioritizing RPI over everything at this point

They’ve got high school state softball, baseball, track and tennis tournaments as well as the biggest country festival in Kentucky.
But in all honesty those dorms are probably nicer than the hotels. They’re basically all apartment style dorms.

I know it’s not the worst thing ever. I’d still rather stay at a Holiday Inn though. It really just sucks for opposing fans/families. Not being able to get a hotel within an hour of the stadium would suck.
This is what they’ll be in.

At least the first team knocked out in Lexington will have a music festival to attend.
And what is your solution? Cancel all events nation wide the week of regionals just in case a school gets picked to host?

It’s an awesome lineup.

Why are you so defensive? I don’t have a solution. I just said it sucks for the opposing team/fans.

Somebody downvoted you. I feel sorry that they have no joy in their life.

Those are definitely the dorms they are putting them in. The email that was sent out to visiting team specifically states Baldwin Hall, which is what that picture is of. They even have a diagram of what the rooms look like and what all is in the rooms in the email.

Yeah it really sucks that Lexington is hosting so many great events that weekend that they’re short on hotels.
It’s terrible.

It does suck. I read your post as a knock against Kentucky. But this is just one of those things.
That music fest will have a lot bigger positive economic impact on the area than Kentucky hosting a regional though.

It is what it is. At least Kentucky is offering the option for them to stay close. College dorms are definitely significantly better than what they were even 10 years ago. They could’ve sent them to Louisville for accommodations.

I know. It’s still a shitty situation. I’m sure they had to show this to the NCAA when they were submitting their bid to host. I would think the NCAA would have a major problem if they said “yeah we plan on housing all opposing teams & staff over an hour away.”

So should accommodations be the deciding factor in who hosts regionals? If so, then we are opening a whole new can of worms. We already can’t figure out what to do with the can we have already opened.
