He's getting more talent than Saban is and that will continue with Saban's age being a deterrent

UGA in position to dominate next decade and Smart is young enough to get close to Saban status by the time he's done

Smart was the man responsible for Sabans dynasty. Good eye by Saban for hiring him

Not really true. Talent isn’t the issue at Bama, they certainly had plenty. Saban not focused, accepting less than perfection, making excuses for loses…he’s gotten soft.

It was Muschamp that got Saban to hire Smart when he was at LSU
You can thank Muschamp

Spot on. And Kirby is running a duplicate that is young, hungry and running at full speed. The gap isn’t much but the age does make a difference.

You are posting this thread within months of Saban landing, by far, the top recruiting class.

Talent isn't the problem at Alabama, it's the slip in the coaching and the bad culture which have lead to the Tide's downturn.

Not sure coaches have 1/2 as much to do with it as the success of the program

24/7 Recruiting Team Rankings by Year for Georgia and Bama.

2023 - UGA 2, BAMA 1
2022 - UGA 3, BAMA 2
2021 - UGA 4, BAMA 1
2020 - UGA 1, BABA 2
2019 - UGA 2, BAMA 1
2018 - UGA 1, BAMA 5
2017 - UGA 3, BAMA 1
2016 - UGA 6, BAMA 1

Georgia and Bama have been close ever since Kirby took over at Georgia. For the 2024 class, he is significantly ahead (Georgia #4, Bama #20)...but that class doesn't sign until next February.

They are taking 5 stars and high 4 stars that UGA is passing on.

And UGA is identifying 3 stars and low 4 stars that the rating services are missing on.

I agree... Bama is killing it with the recruiting services.
I disagree that Bama is dominating recruiting like UGA is. The finer details appear to weigh in to UGAs favor.

(UGA missed on Will Anderson Jr. UGA most definitely misses on evals as well. But the total sum of 25 draft picks in 2 years supports that Kirby's long hours are paying off)

Unfortunately I agree. Incoming talent is not the divider. Its the development and mostly the mentality that UGA is winning in. Ever since Bama’s offense went fully wide open under Tua the defense and run game have lacked the urgency to win every down. There used to be a time when running the ball and stopping the run vs Bama simply did not happen. That is now UGA with Bama looking more like Ohio St….talented but soft.

Corndog pretends to start a Georgia/Smart thread and within the first line mentions Saban.

Smart is on his way to changing the entire game I’d say.

He’s doing what Saban was doing at a younger age and frankly, with a more modern approach than Saban did.

I'm relatively sure that Georgia did not pass on Caleb Downs, Keon Keeley, Kadyn Proctor, Justice Haynes or James Smith.

2022 Draft
2R, #44 - John Metchie (#262 overall, 4 star)
2R, #47 - Phi Mathis (#197 overall, 4 star)
3R, #98 - Brian Robinson (#224 overall, 4 star)

2023 Draft
3R, #70 - Byron Young (#76, 4 star)
3R, #101 - Cam Latu (#172, 4 star)

5 guys in 2 years whose draft spot in the NFL draft was higher than their recruiting ranking as a high school player (plus tons of guys who were highly recruited and.........turned into highly rated plays........and 3 transfers whose stock undoubtadly improved during their 1 season in Tuscaloosa (Williams, Gibbs, Steen)).

Let's not all lose our minds here. Alabama is in a rut relative to Alabama. Georgia has a great thing going. Alabama still has the greatest recruiter of all time and rosters of elite raw talent that has been developed into elite NFL talent, even after 2 nightmare years in which they finished #2 and #5 and went 24-4 with 4 losses that were in doubt until the end of the final drive of the game (3 on literal walk offs plays).

He is but I’m not sure it matters like it used to, before NIL and no transfer penalties. The 5 stars that don’t see the field by year 2 will transfer to where they can play immediately.

I'm not a recruiting expert.

I know we lost on Downs and Haynes.

I do know from sources that we discriminate based on willingness to be pushed. And that not all 5 star and high 4 stars were losses.

We can only do that when talent wants to be in Athens (Bama has that same benefit).

I'm saying that Kirby appears better at cherry picking than Nick does right now.
