Bottom line ABC/ESPN really really really need to up their production game/quality.

Like big time. Pails in comparison top CBS/Fox/NBC in picture quality, sound, announcers, etc etc.

I hate ABC/ESPN audio/picture quality. It sucks. Glad the B1G rejected them and chose the professionals at CBS, FOX, and NBC. Great exposure and great money.

The Midwest is a terrible region in which the only source of entertainment during your eight-month winters include watching television.

Thus, while we're boating, golfing, riding, dining outdoors, etc. in February, B10 Midwestern rubes are gulping Bud Light and confined to their couches.

Thus, despite having a dying population, B10 country still gets more eyeballs on the TV. That will likely continue despite the fact that the B10 is incapable of winning championships, with the exception of Ohio State (the SEC's official bitch, courtesy of UGA, Bama, UF, and LSU).

Also, given the South's superiority in higher education, we also split our region's fandom with the ACC.

The Big Ten doesn't suffer that problem - their shitty Midwestern public schools in the B10 dominate state fandoms, with the only competition being the MAC.

CBS is the best. Fox is decent but not better than Herbstreit/Fowler and some other ESPN crews. NBC with Jac Collinsworth is terrible.

Nice effort I guess but I will take it from here.

No one is playing college football in February so I do not know what he is talking about. Maybe he is thinking of college basketball but no one cares about it.

What he was trying to say was the B1G fans love their teams and would rather watch them play while Southerners would rather be out of the trailer working on their truck, drinking beer, and playing corn hole.

I think a long term deal with ESPN/ABC is unwise. Disney is hurting and ESPN has been a major drag. They could in time sell it off and at that point, we’d have been better off with CBS, Fox or NBC

They need to get on that shite production NOW. Don't frick around and wait to level up your broadcast, get it done before these contracts commence.

You just described the entire population of Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, the Dakotas, anywhere in Illinois outside of Chicago, etc.

Now compare that to Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Tampa, Charlotte, Austin, Raleigh, New Orleans, Charleston, etc.

Midwest is the hillbilly capital of the U.S.

I live in Palm Beach. You live in Ohio. I could buy you, motherfricker

ESPN/Disney is like a ship taking on water. Disney is looking to drop ESPN but so far has few buyers interested. And with streaming becoming more relevant, it will make ESPN even more irrelevant.

Sankey has to feel like the captain of the Titanic when he realized the great ship was going down.

I really do not know what the ACC and SEC will do since they have cast their lot with the mouse.

Maybe the more important question will be, will some of the lifeboats reach out to others to take them in?

OK, maybe I am missing it.

SEC provides content

ESPN provides production

TWC / Comcast / ??? provides backbone

Cable / Roku / Apple / Smart TV provide viewing in home

If ESPN does not provide backbone and they do not provide instrument for end user (TV / computer / Cell phone) how are they hurt by streaming?

The cable model forces the ESPN family of networks on customers whether they want it or not.

That will no longer be the case when customers convert to the streaming model which will allow customers to only buy what they want to watch.

With the SEC being a regional model, their subscribers will be limited to one region of the country, making for a much smaller subscription rate with fewer people watching.

The B1G being a national conference from the Atlantic to the Pacific will have a much larger subscription rate meaning more viewers.

They both suck. CBS has far too many commercials and drawn out, 5 hour games. And ESPN has a much lower quality of broadcast and beth mullens.

Population and growth of each region according to 2020 census.

I’m sure the footprints bleed together and the addition of the California schools may sway the population in favor of the Big Ten.

That said, population for each area:

Northeast
57,448,898
17.3%
Midwest
68,961,043
20.8%
West
78,650,958
23.7%
South
126,450,613
38.1%

Thanks, you don't realize it but you just posted the vital facts that prove what I have been saying all along that the B1G's strategy is paying off and will pay off big time in the future.

The B1G will draw viewers from the northeast, midwest, and west. That is 165,000,000 in footprint population which is around 61% of the population. This doesn't even count the additions to that footprint when the B1G adds southern teams, Which will happen.

Did I? Or are you making my point?

I guess you missed the part where I mentioned the California market’s effect and how the regions bleed together.

Moreover, according to the census, Northeast + Midwest = South population wise. Difference is, the population increase in the South is twice that of the other regions.

Further, you don’t actually think the SEC has stopped expanding and will limit their expansion to the South do you?
