You may be right but I’m not going to say burn it all down if he is.

I'm a'ight with it if Steele is hired as DC, I just don't think it's very likely.

ETA: As I said, I could be wrong about that.

Buddy of mine had a theory (no inside info, just lots of beer) that Pruitt was the #1 target and the athletic department was hopeful keeping it quiet, no leaks, would make it easier and possible to work with the NCAA to get the all clear to hire him. Once it leaked, outsiders (Fat Phil and company) have gotten involved which has made an already tough job even more difficult and complex.

Side note, think the Austin Armstrong addition is huge and not talked about enough. Very versatile hire that gives Saban multiple options for a solo DC or CO-DC hire.

Disclaimer I was born and raised in TN and still live here so I have great distain for them. I 100% believe all the negative surrounding Pruitt is completely on fat Phil. I loathe that robust fella and hate that JP put himself in the position to be “got” by the great pumpkin.

I'll take Kevin Steele over Pete Golding every day and every year.

I will be very surprised if Steele is hired. He didn't like working for Saban

Yeah, good point. Two years (07-08) then 1 year off field, one year on field (13-14). He doesn’t seem to like to do more than a bare minimum commitment to Saban then looks to bounce.

Steele

I would be stoked to see Steele with the talent we've collected on defense. He's also an elite recruiter.

maybe true but he is in the later stages of his career and maybe he is willing to come back to Bama to help NS develop his replacement. I am thinking a 2 year commitment perhaps

gave up 70 points to West Virginia. Kevin Steele is a downgrade from Pete

One damn game vs what he did at Auburn. Yes people made fun of Auburn, then he went on to absolutely destroy those perceptions while at Auburn and they had some pretty kick arse defenses. I don’t care if you have egg on your face for making fun of the goat ropers. He is the best candidate available that we know of not named Pruitt.

Hope he has learned to like all the long hours Saban requires because he did not like them before

But he would not be a terrible hire if he and Saban can resolve their differences

Steel is OK with me, he would be an upgrade over Golding. When he had good talent, he had good defenses. Golding had great talent with mediocre defenses!... Of course, I would rather have Pruitt or Chavis

I think we are going to begin hearing the name of an NFL related individual soon; who that is I don’t know. 1 of 2 things has happened with Grantham leaving for the NFL when he did. Either we have had our DC identified and possibly committed for a bit (behind the scenes), or we are scrambling to fill the position. The hiring of the Southern Miss DC to be a position coach was a good one. I trust Coach, but if 2 more weeks go by without a new DC being named, I will legitimately start being worried.

In regards of the reported Kevin Steele interview, Saban was in Fort Lauderdale last week on a recruiting trip. N1UA did in fact make a quick stop at the Miami Executive Airport.

If Saban wants Pruitt I believe we get him and I doubt the NCAA or the Great Pumpkin could prevent it if Pruitt wants to come here.

Saban has one of the toughest jobs already and never takes the easy or less complex road.
