Not anymore. Kirby's assistants now can get big jobs just like Saban's.

Packers DC is coming back - that's off the table. The Browns are the interested party in Leonhard at the moment in the NFL world.
Shaft is correct about Kirby's DCs. They can stay there and move on to big HC jobs. The Schumann pull is as much about coming here and being the #1 guy at his alma mater as opposed to sharing duties with Muschamp at UGA. There is definitely an emotional pull factor to it. If that doesn't resonate there isn't much reason for him to leave.

Jim Leonhard isn't broke. He can afford to sit at home for a year if need be.

This fricking guy man...

I'm not sold on Schumann because Muschamp and Kirby are with him. That's a hell of a support system for a DC.

So Jim Leonhard is going to sit at home for a season to wait to be one of 4 jobs that he will take in the entire world of football - Wisconsin HC, Wisconsin DC, Packers HC, Packers DC? And until one of those comes open...........just gonna sit around in the prime of his coaching career and do nothing?
That seems very unlikely.

Leonard for a couple of years, until he gets a head coaching job. With Pruitt in the rehab program, hopefully cleared by the time Leonard leaves.

I'm realistic. UGA DC is now just as good of a job as Bama DC. Both jobs provide the same upward mobility.

Leonhard has young kids too. That's a lot to uproot.

Ok...so?
I don't know how UGA manages co-DCs (and I assume you don't either). If the co-DCs have to work together, come to an agreement on game plans, etc., maybe he butts heads with Muschamp and doesn't want to collaborate with him anymore.
Just saying there could be reasons he wants to leave that don't have anything to do with which job gives him a better chance of being a head coach.

Yes, so do 65% of other major college and NFL head coaches and coordinators.
If his desire is to never leave Wisconsin I think he will probably need to lower his standards for head coaching/coordinating jobs or find a new profession.

And, you could be right.

UA compliance department will have the final say, so don’t be surprised if he ends up on staff in some capacity.

I'm only telling you what's been said why Leonhard didn't leave Wisconsin earlier.

An analyst position might be the best way to grease the wheels to get him coaching on the field in 2024.

I get that - but that was back when he had a job as the DC at Wisconsin currently and was saying no to other opportunities (along with a eye towards possibly being able to land the HC job or a job with the Packers).
He does not have that job anymore and was passed over for the Wisconsin HC job, which is no longer an option in the near future. His last hope to fulfill that was DC of the Packers, and that appears to also be closed.
That doesn't mean I think he comes here, but I do think he ends up coaching somewhere outside of the state of Wisconsin next fall. If the only goal was staying in Wisconsin he would have stayed there at DC, IMHO.

Austin Armstrong (Southern Miss DC) is name getting thrown around. And one that would probably greatly disappoint many around here lol.

You’re not wrong on being a great support system, but Bama needs a young up and coming Defensive mind that’s hungry and will put some energy and fire back into the Def.

I read the footballscoop article. It pretty clearly said "a position on staff".
He's a ILB coach with DC experience in FBS. I think it's possible that we are considering hiring him to coach ILB and be a co-DC and hire Leohnard as DC (play calling DC) and coach safeties. That way, the DC is involved with ILB through the co-OC, and Armstrong can learn for 2-3 years under Leonhard before Leonhard moves on to be a head coach somewhere.
That is just complete dot connecting by me, but it seems to make a lot of sense.
