Definitely not the way he wanted to get the job, but its his. 36 years old. Wife is Emily, two small children. Youngest head coach by 5 years in the SEC (Clark Lea)

This is his first head coaching job

He would probably kick every other SEC coach's arse in a fight, save Beamer.

Has been defensive coordinator at MSU since Leach come on. Was defensive coordinator at San Diego State prior. He started as a GA at SDSU and worked his way up. SDSU and MSU are the only schools he's coached at.

All 11 teams he has been on the coaching staff have been to bowl games. His defenses have been great. As high as 3rd in the nation at SDSU and 3rd in the SEC at MSU.

His youth may either be a huge bonus that helps in recruiting and in connecting with his players, or it could be a downfall due to inexperience. There is no set of rules or strict guide to running a college football program, so who's to say that the way he chooses to do it won't work?

I hope he does well enough to keep the gig long term and honor what Leach built

I hope this works out…I’m not sure we had much of a choice, but I’m all-in. He was loyal to leach, so he is already a step ahead

I’m already a little concerned about him. I expect him to do well. You better believe with this fantastic opportunity dumped in his lap he will make every effort to make it work. I wish him well.

He looks like he could clothesline someone and decapitate them. Good choice by Miss State here. There's something to be said for continuity and stability during a time like this and hopefully he gets some time to grow into the job.

Inexperience is tangible, connecting with players because of age is a positive spin on a tough situation. Best of luck.

Wrong, youngest by 3 years. Drinkwitz is younger than Clark Lea.

I hope MSU beats Illinois by 40, MSU keeps all their recruits and adds a few, and MSU wins 10 games next year. The year after Leach left Oklahoma as OC to be HC at Texas Tech, Oklahoma won a national championship. I don’t think that is reasonable to expect MSU to do the same, but if they do I will be happy for them. And what a story it would make.
