It just isn’t the same with all of the passing and missed tackles these days.

That was the last of hard hitting safeties and linebackers before targeting was a thing and RBs would just grind all game and carry your team.

DJ Swearinger. played with lots of emotion, was there at the start of targeting when it was a 15 yard penalty but no ejection. man he would hit you and then tell you about it

Tackling is a lost art. The Rebs were one of the worst tackling teams in the league a few seasons ago. We have gotten much better, but still have a ways to go.

It was all downhill for defenses when targeting rule got introduced

UGA last year is a true enigma. Heck even they got lit up by Bama the first time around to the tune of 536 yards/41 points (granted 7 of those came from pick 6)

It is so tough to get defenses to play well week in and week out when they cant really have fun with it any more.

I miss it. I miss hard-nosed football, lining up under center, old fashioned play action pass, fullbacks, double tights, RB screens, and defenders who are allowed to lay the wood. I'm not saying there shouldn't be rules in place to protect players, but it's way over the top right now and defenders are walking on eggshells. The game is so different, and not for the better.

Witnessing Stanford rise from the ashes and whoop USC's arse in the Harbaugh era was pretty fun to watch

I don't miss the days of CFB when a team who couldn't win their own division or conference and still have an opportunity to play for a title.

That still happens with the current system, pal. Look at 2017-18.

Last year a team won without a conference title: 2021
Last year a team won without a division title: 2017
Last year Gearhart and Ingram played: 2010

Last time Auburn fans understood linear time:

Harbaugh going for two with a 48-21 lead in the Coliseum is one of the funnier things I've ever seen in college football. Pete Carroll was not happy.

I miss it bad.

I loved watching a good running team no matter who it was. Now its a bunch of idiots running around playing flag football. Was watching Bama and UT from 2009 and the halftime score was like 13-6. Nowadays its like 31-24 or some shite. Whoever has the ball last in a lot of games is who will win. You HAVE to have a stud QB to win it all now unless you play the good ole fashioned way a la UGA then its more a team offense which I think is more sustainable.

Woody Hayes went for 2 against Ohio State with a 48-0 lead. When asked after the game why he went for 2, Woody said "because they wouldn't let me go for 3".

I always thought college football in 2000-2012 would be that way forever. It was perfect.

Seems like when Gus Malzahn & Johnny Manziel were having peak success at their respective schools (Spread HUNH), their style changed the game.

Then, Nick Saban perfected it.

Now, compare the 2013-2021 seasons to the aforementioned range and tell me what was better.

Also, the players fricking hated and wanted to kill their opponents.

Today, they’re all friends and making out with each other on ticgram
