just being out there selling the program to the regions high school coaches so good to see.
High School coaches get off being around college coaches either (1) they want the contacts to keep climbing the coaching ladder, or(2) just to have the street cred that they ‘run with college coaches.’
Even if you’re a D2 school, if you go and hang around high school coaches they will feed you recruits. It’s half the battle - stroke the HS Coach ego and you’ll reap the rewards.
Look at at our own Corch - he pimps any coach or player that he has any personal connection to.

They want to be seen around college coaches so that kids at other hs schools in their area will see it.

True. It's all about the betterment of the young man. You want what is best for them. I try to be fair though about who I post about if they are SEC caliber or not. Because anyone here wouldn't care if I pimped a kid that is Arkansas State level.
However for me I'm not looking to move up the ladder I've got 2 maybe 3 years more then likely 2 before I hang the turf shoes up.

I think Haskins was initially shocked and bewildered at the scope of recruiting.
Honestly, he has a point. The 24/7 nature of recruiting by Saban and Smart is just madness.
Why do you have to spend your whole life making courtesy calls at every single high school? The prospects are already being identified. The reason is because everyone else is doing it. I don't think Haskins mind would allow him to adjust to the necessary reality.
I think he tried to go half way or adjust in his own mind by hiring the GM that was from the Cowboys. But that was never going to be anywhere close to enough.

We are the first school to offer 5* Mike Matthew's out of Parkview in Atlanta to play football and basketball. Big move by Auburn.

They had no choice. The idiot was changing the game plans on Friday.

Spot on Corch!
My middle son coaches 7A in Atlanta. He says the same. Its about the young man and looking out for him and his best interest. He has received offers from a college or two but prefers to stay with HS kids.

Good point. I'm sympathetic as well to the ridiculous demands of modern recruiting. I understand why a coach would hate it. But going forward, being a pathological recruiter needs to be the top job requirement for an Auburn coach.

Apologies guys... I just notice he is mentioned in the 2024 thread.

Did anyone see the photos w/ Nesbitt and Freeze at Gainesville HS, in GA? Nesbitt comes across as a complete prick. Every other photo has been nothing but smiles, appreciation

I think it’s universally understood that Niblett is a bit of a douche. Any high school coach that seizes the opportunity to take his shirt off at a pep rally automatically gains 50 douche points.

Niblett is legitimately a great guy. I’ve known him my entire life. He is a true Christian man not just a fake faith pusher he lives his life the way a Christian should. And he’s a good coach.
And when I mean I’ve known him my entire life I mean like my entire life used to spend the night over at each other’s houses when we were kids. Played on the same travel team in the summer as teenagers.
Every successful coach has a little bit of cocky in them because it’s hard to cut off that competitive spirit. So it comes across that way or arrogant.
I haven’t heard about the shirt thing so I will ask him why? Was this at Gainesville or Hoover?

Absolutely. There is no more "this guy's a better game day coach." (If this ever was the case.)

Recruiting is required. BUT Coaching is essential. See Jimbo.

Well I can only speak of my personal experience with him, but when he was at Oneonta he was absolutely incredible. The players loved him. The students loved him. The fans loved him. You couldn’t find a soul who had a single negative thing to say about him.
So maybe after he left Oneonta he turned into something different but everything I’ve seen tells me he is the same person everyone loved for winning the first championship at my high school since the 70s. We had gotten close a few times, but never could get past that championship game during the 80s and 90s.

I've lived long enough to know, everybody's hero is somebody's a-hole.

Recruiting is more important than coaching in college now. You can ruin incredible talent, but it's hard. You can't spin straw into gold.

It's all important. However, there is massive confirmation bias: the teams that recruit the best, also generally have the best coaches and supporting staffs. So those elite recruits are simultaneously also being coached and developed properly. It's not like Georgia or Ohio State or Bama are signing 5-stars every year, but somehow they can't attract legitimately good coaches.
