Right, which is what I said but last year was their first truly elite class. 6th and 8th is usually like 3rd and 4th in the SEC and they hovered around the last the previous couple of years until last season.

So like twice in the last 15 years both of which they were one crazy play in a difficult road game away from competing or winning a national title (i.e. being in the playoff)?

Dave Bartoo, whoever that is, hasn't discovered shite. You disprove your own point. If you believe that the two coordinators are poor coaches and Alabama still went 11-2 with two losses on the last play of the game (the got hosed against UT btw) against two good teams in two of the most hostile environments in the country then I would say that's pretty much the argument that talent is going to win regardless the majority of the time.

My friend, their second string was more talented than our first string by a significant amount. Their third string likely as well.

Dawg, 6th to 8th in recruiting nationally should result in a much better season than 5-7. Last year they were 8-4. Both of those seasons are WELL below the expected result for recruiting of that caliber.

Your attempt at a point here is moronic. No, you can't explain away the dichotomy of A&M's recruiting and lack of actual success by trying to pretend like they only started getting talent in 2022.

What, the #6 class in the country isn't "elite" now?

McElwain - Won titles, other years didn't

Nussmeier - Won title, other year didn't

Kiffin - won title other year didn't

Sarkisian - Won title, other years didn't

Golding - Won title , other years didn't

The others like O'brien (who I guess got shut out) did just as well as all the "winners" in their own "down" years.

This history shows, no matter the coaches, the performance has been the same - basically a coin flip (like a two point conversion , or a knuckle ball field goal) from winning a title. Different coaches but same elite talent.

know Golding basically changed Bama’s defense from top 5 to top 15 damn near instantaneously. See the stats.

I’m not really sure what y’all are arguing about this point.

A&M proves bad coaching cannot make good recruiting swallow all problems. However they also proved they still had the talent to beat Bama once in a while. All A&M needs is good coaching….FTR I think Jimbo is moreso outdated and less bad at coaching. I think he was a good coach. Calling him a bad coach just doesn’t sound right.

No, it really isn't. Especially not in the SEC.

Last year the gap between 1 and 6 was the same as between 6 and 17 (which happened to be Auburn). Last year it was the same as 6 and 21 (which also happened to be Auburn). To illustrate the gap we would be absolutely creaming our pants for the #6 class right now while Bryan Harsin was the worst recruiter imaginable and still pulled the #21 class his one full season.

Also, 6 in the country is basically 4th in the SEC and often 3rd in the SEC west.

In 2020 A&M finished like 4th in the country and went 9-1 in the SEC, in 2021 their starting QB got injured in like the second game of the season and they went 8-4 which isn't far off what'd you expect from a team finishing 3rd/4th in their conference in recruiting.

Last year was the first year, recently, they really underachieved and there is no way around that for sure.

However, the hurr durr A&M shows recruiting is overrated is a lazy argument and shows a lack of surface level knowledge/understanding of a nuanced situation.

One QB giveth and another QB taketh it away.

As far as his pinnacle and last year.
