On one hand, it appears Alabama should not have extreme difficulty in winning this game, but on the other hand, I can see Cincinnati going with the"nothing to lose" approach and really ball out.

How do you think Alabama will come out and play?
Literally 2 extremes just in the last 2 games.
The Auburn game looked like we never even cared nor knew how to even play.
At least for the first 58 minutes.

Then 7 days later, Bama looked invincible for virtually the entire game.

One could argue that Alabama played its worst game in years and best game in years in a span of 8 days.

I just have some gut feeling that Alabama will be overlooking the Bearcats and will be in for way more of a fight than it should be.

Any thoughts otherwise?

I think the team realizes they have been inconsistent towards the end of the year. Just going by quotes , articles etc , it seems they are laser focused and ready to finish this off … I think they will play well

My only concern is the injuries and lack of experience that will be playing major roles in the playoffs

I’m thinking that perhaps Alabama finally gelled as a team during the Auburn game and it came to fruition against Georgia. I also think Cincinnati is a very good team with plenty of dudes who will make this a game. If Alabama comes out and plays mistake free football and wins a close one I will be very happy. I don’t think Cincinnati is a team that will get blown out. They have too good of a coaching staff and players. Very senior laden team.

I was watching coach Fickle's press conference from yesterday and noticed he said they had to stop going good on good in practice because he was afraid of getting somebody injured. Now I guess you could take that 1 of 2 ways, I personally think their team is that motivated to prove themselves and they were being too passionate and hitting too hard. I don't think it's because the coaching staff is being too soft with them. They played a very physical game against georgia last year.

Do you have a link for that? Rodak quoted him as saying:
quote:

Asked about how the new forfeiture policy makes it “important” for players to not test positive this week, Fickell responded, “Everything’s important.”

“Guys get hurt,” he continued. “We’re going to go out and practice tomorrow. And we’re not going to not hit each other or not touch each other because we don’t want a guy to hurt his ankle or knee. So I think we all understand the magnitude of the issues that surround us, the magnitude of the opportunities we have.

Noticed this too. This Cincinnati team is veteran, including at QB. I look back to their game against Georgia last year and they looked liked they can handle playing the big boys. I think Bama is going to have a fight on their hands.

People are reading too much in that game against Georgia last year.

Georgia had 15 players out of that game with injuries and opt outs.

the question starts at about 7:20

ETA: I tried finding a transcript of the press conference with no luck. "We put the ball down and competed with each other and actually kinda had to shut it down from doing it because in some ways, I'm not saying we got too competitive but I didn't want it to come to a point of getting anybody hurt"

Sounds like JAD is good to go, which is very good news

I think that he and Kool Aid will form a formidable tandem at corner. Hopefully we have someone step up opposite Jameson at WR.

In the semifinals? I guess it’s possible, but I don’t think it happens. If Cincinnati makes this a dog fight I think it will be because they’re worthy, not due to overconfidence by Bama.

Yep I feel better about that situation now. Nothing against Jackson just didn’t seem like it was the time.

Here’s a transcript if anyone wants to read any additional comments

Everything Cincinnati's Luke Fickell Said about Alabama on Sunday of Cotton Bowl Week (SI)

The Cincinnati football coach talked about his team's arrival in Texas, playing in the Cotton Bowl, being an underdog against Alabama, coaching against Nick Saban and more.

Earle hasn’t played since injury right? Can’t remember his injury and timeline for return - chances he plays?

My main concern is what we’ve gone over all season. What Bama team shows up for the game and how big will the injuries be?

I look at it this way. Cincy won’t be the best offense we’ve faced, won’t be the best defense we’ve faced and certainly isn’t the best special teams unit that we’ve faced.

Now flip that. They’re about to square up with the best offense they’ve faced and the best defense they’ve faced, by far. All in one game. They’ve got a bigger hill to climb to get adjusted to this game.

Does that mean we run away with this one or even win? Hell, no. There’s no telling how one game goes. They could come out smokin’ and have us on our heels.
