Florida's biggest booster wants Sumrall. Willing to pony up the money. Florida fans don't want him.

Auburn fans want Sumrall (to moderate degree). Cohen doesn't want to pony up the money and wants to keep Durkin.

LSU/Ole Miss will go after both these guys as soon as they hear from Lane. They will have a lot of upset fans and they will be willing to pay $$$ to get "plan B".

Durkin will also get offered several DC jobs this week.

My guess is we get Durkin as head coach for 6 mil a year

I’m on board.

I’d like him over Golesh

Honestly, I’d be happy with either.

Even though we are a historic top 15 school, our last few years have not been kind to our reputation. But then, neither have our last few coaching decisions- starting with extending Gus in 2017.

I’m not a big fan of retreads, but I thought Franklin could do well here. But, he is off the board. Kiffin isn’t coming, or is he? :)

I wonder if Cohen realizes that this hire could make or break him. He can’t miss again.

I like Durkin. His record with his starting QBs is intriguing, but, as a famous coach said, “you are what your record says you are.”

Like we all have said, if we go through all of this to hire Durkin, then Cohen deserves everything that comes his way.

No one gets their big break until they get one. Taking a chance on one of these G5 guys could net us our next Dye and a long period of sustained success. Or, it could net us our next Harsin, and we’re back here in 2.5 years.

The next 24 hours should be very exciting!!

I'm coming around on getting a top notch P4 coordinator like Glen Schumann or Brian Hartline. G5 coaches haven't worked out so well for us.

Easy to have a top defense when you take over for a top DC (Lanning) and have Muschamp providing guidance as the analyst….

Schumann lost some stock earlier this year but in typical Georgia fashion that defense is rolling again.

Finding a winning coach is already hard enough. You put in so much effort into analysis and research, and you conclude that Sumrall is your clear #1 guy. No, that doesn't guarantee that he will succeed, but if he is your #1 guy then your research has clearly concluded that he is the most likely to succeed...otherwise he shouldn't be your #1 guy in the first place.

If you think Sumerall and Golesh are similar caliber Coach (I have no idea whether they are or not. Not the point) then I’d rather hire Golesh for a much cheaper price than Sumerall.

Then I don’t have some massive buyout to go beg boosters for while also begging them for NIL for the next Coach.

If you think Sumerall is a slam dunk then go pay $10m for him. It better work out though

Muschamp left months ago. He is not with Georgia.

He's actually improved the defense over the course of the season.

I hate to be the bearer of obvious news, but this is only going one of two ways -

1. Things fall through with Sumrall and Florida and we end up getting him.

2. Sumrall signs with Florida and we promote Durkin.

The outcome of today’s game is irrelevant either way.

Cohen better hope next season is amazing, but even if we get the best hire, going to 9 sec games and our opponents tell me he better start dusting off his resume.

Lol yup. I’m sure the beat writers are releasing exclusive hints of “mystery candidates” on the pay sites as we speak though

This whole hiring process feels like how it would go when hiring a new cafeteria manager. Find someone on campus that wants the job, get it wrapped up before the holidays.

Then pivot and go get some assistant manager from Golden Corral because the conference center stole the person originally targeted

I still think Summral is a lock and has been since the beginning. No surprise UF and Ole Miss are taking swings but we’re in the driver seat if Cohen doesn’t just go full Jaba

If it hasn't been mentioned already, Sumrall and Golesh have the same agent.

I emailed Cohen and he responded (the department did). Told me my opinion on the search is significant. I'm making a difference boys

Is Sumrall really preferred over Golesh?

Clearly he is. Hence why one guy has Florida/Auburn/Ole Miss jostling over him while the other is waiting out an offer from Arkansas and hoping that he can get a better deal at the last second from one of those other schools that want Sumrall over him.

When I was at Auburn in stats 2 I did a project and it was about if going for it on 4th down was statistically significant to winning and I wrote Gus an email asking about it and the student worker basically told me to frick off
