quote:Yeah, so it took him a roughly a season or the end of a season? I wasn't passing judgment like Siskel and Ebert every game and recording my notes in my AU announcer database. I agree he was iconic and just great.
“Go Crazy Cadillac” was in his first season and one of his most notable calls. It was the pure enthusiasm that he always had that made him.

Growing up, I recall hearing Larry Munson. A bit of Al Ciraldo and John Ward up at UT. Didn't care for Ward all that much.
I would later tune in to GA Tech games, just to hear Wes Durham call, not because I gave 2 flips about the Jackets, but imo, he was one of the best radio guys around.
I listened to Jim Fyffe call the AU vs FSU game, back in '84. Even bought the cassette recording of the game, and would play it to and from Auburn. Rod following Jim was a slight change, but still comfortable.
With no disrespect, Andy Burcham sounds like a decent HS playoff radio guy. At most. That's the image I get when he's calling a game.

For as bad as Andy can be, the network broadcasters are ALWAYS worse. Stan does a good job with it.
There was the game where they constantly called Harsin "Harrison"

I like Andy fine on basketball but not very much on football.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt on football for this season but he’s got to get used to the role of how to build the emotion and intensity like he does in basketball. Also another consideration is where they are located in the stadium now. Corner of the endzone not the best for getting players yardage numbers correct quickly and think it slows him down some

But did you have the CD of some Jim’s biggest calls with a mixture in between of cheers, band playing, a song called Auburn Blue and early rap song War War Eagle. Lol. I used to play it headed to games in my brand new ‘92 t-top Camero lol. That was back when everyone flew flags on the way to games but you know me way to cool to have the tops in so no place to put the flags. I was dating an Auburn majorette at the time and was able to get in the student section and all the big parties after games.
Correction the rap song was called our house just remembered that since the Iron Bowl had just come to auburn in ‘89

No, but I don’t need to give him several years to know what I know about Burcham. We need a new football voice. Bless him, his wife and Rod’s kids but he ain’t the one.

Sorta related, but I was impressed how well our current stadium announcer stepped into the shoes of the old guy. Sadly I can’t call their names right now.
I miss the stadium announcer calling out scores of games and the crowd reacting. The ribbon boards took away that cool accidental tradition.

So there is a new stadium announcer to. It was weird the guy that came in around 2000ish copied the sound of the previous guy it was weird thinking about it. Sound cadence everything was spot on unless you’d been told you would never have know there was a change. Not only the scores being announced my favorite was…
“For those outside the stadium… it is 1 hour until kickoff”. You knew you better get your shite together and in the stadium for the pregame pageantry.

Haven’t really been a fan of his either. I’ll say this though, he hasn’t really had a chance to do a memorable call yet because of the shite product we put on the field. It wasn’t until RB’s “Go Crazy Cadillac” call that he really became his own man and not a replacement for Fyffe.

The correct Jordan-Hare stadium time is 1:37. We are just one hour away from the kickoff of the Auburn Tigers vs. the Alabama Crimson Tide. For the fans outside the stadium, pregame festivities begin in approximately forty minutes.

Dang, I thought it was the same guy.
The Auburn stadium announcer is awesome. I appreciate that he sounds fairly neutral and doesn't do any goofy first down call or whatever. I hate some of the other stadium announcers I've experienced. So cheesy.

Not every single person who attends a football game in Jordan-Hare Stadium knows Ric Smith.
But they’ve heard his voice.
Smith is in his 14th year as the stadium announcer for Auburn Tigers football.

Then we get held to just two FGs and zero TDs for our first two games

Damn. I just thought it was the same guy since I was a kid. I thought for some reason the announcer was some kind of professor at Auburn, maybe that was just a rumor I heard and believed.
