We had a thread on thoughts on D playcalling. How about the Golesh O?
I don’t think it was bad at all. Think it was more execution. I thought we would try to run the ball more but I see why they didn’t.
Thoughts?
And bonus thought on the third area of football and critical IMO, Special Teams. Holy hell when are we ever going to get this figured out?

The offense looked eerily similar to Gus 2.0. I could not tell that our spacing helped much. I was expecting so much offense and was genuinely excited, but the offense looked way too familiar even though we actually moved the ball a lot.
I believe the OL being so bad will shut down the offense this year, but I am worried even next year that coaches are going to figure it out. I already know coaches like Kirby can figure it out. It is a gimmick.
Overall I would rate rushing offense an F. I actually bet someone at work that our offense would lead the league in rushing. This bet was before the blocking sled video and I listened to Pinkston on the OL
Passing offense was decent and a moderate surprise but his arm is janky and I would rather have running success.
Receivers did great. It seemed like everybody caught everything.

This, Gus 2.0 yesterday. Which allowed Baylor to stuff the box with LBs to spy Brown and shut down the inside run game, while dropping safeties to stop the deep passes. Basically the MO everyone used to shutdown Gus at the end of his Auburn career.
Outside of a couple TE passes early we didn't remotely try to attack the middle of the field. Hopefully that changes going forward. Though Brown's weird throwing motion and slow decisions make that difficult.
The offensive line was a big worry for most of us going in, so that wasn't super surprising. But our offensive play calling was massively disappointing to me. I was expecting an upgrade, and got Gus 2.0.
Gonna need some improvement quickly. Only 55k showing up to the game and boo birds coming out during the game already isn't a great sign for fan patience.

If the NFL and the recruits like the offenses that can go multi and blended I would rather go in that direction. I mean Kiffin also uses a variation of the veer and shoot as well, but he isnt married to it. He can use formations and strategies as needed on the go.

The offense is what Tennessee has been running for years now, essentially. Just play better, ultimately.

Heupel has not had a huge load of success as of late. The year he went to the playoff, Nico and the offense were horrible, while the defense was their saving grace.
And on that note, he has never beaten Georgia. He never will beat Georgia when his offense is mostly vertical or run. If you cannot pass it around the intermediate then Georgia will just eliminate the possibilities to what they can cope with.

Yea I mean he hasn’t really had success since Golesh left. I’m not defending the scheme as some cure all. It’s not. But it can work and has shown the ability to. Like most things though, it’s needs the players. Just trying to point out we know what it looks like and what it can look like when run well.

Missed a 43 yard FG. It happens. Kickoffs were good. Punts were good.
The Baylor punter was a weapon for them. He really flipped the field a couple of times

At least we’re consistent. Defense looks like it has the past few years. Offense looks the same as the past few years. I’m glad we came out ahead but Auburn QBs are not allowed to be efficient anymore for some reason and it drives me crazy

I thought the despite the questionable offense line, that the core offensive players have been together previously was going to be the spark. And yet it was Baylor that mustered a late game drive to score a touchdown.
Three interceptions and 17 points, I’m not sure I wanna hear about first game jitters.

I just wonder who in our PTB has this never-ending fetish with spread schemes. I can almost hear the conversation... we want to throw it around because we never have here at Auburn, but by the way, we run the ball here at Auburn.
So far, we look like what Gus was at the end of his time here. A big play offense that is very familiar to opposing defenses and thus stagnant. I hope that changes. And if it doesn't, I hope we can finally get over this hope that the next guy will make it work.
