Re-looking at the game
Brown missed opportunities. Some of the Sacks / TFLs were on him. He either tried to run when he could have hit the RB for bigger gains, tried to force a throw into a crowd when he could have hit the relief valve for a decent gain. Or times when he should have thrown it away but instead chose to try and run it. He has to realize that this is a different league.
The O line had issues picking up the stunts. The run game suffered from that at times. Not sure why Brown thought he was a better runner than some of his backs but there were times he should have let them eat. I rewatched portions of the game to make these judgements about the O. Not happy how we played but glad we got the W. Need to really clean it up before going into SEC play or it will be a long season and I may just say F it as I could spend the time with the grand kids or hobbies. Things that bring joy to my life and not heartburn.

That’s a lot of words to say they had a rough day but were ok in flashes, which is probably a fair assessment.
End of the day they looked ROUGH. Hopefully with some film these issues are fixable.

The stats are not wrong. But it is important to emphasize that the USF stats are only 4 games vs Power 4 opponents (USF is at a lower talent level). Also the 4 games are from all of the Golesh tenure (not just last year). Also he actually won one of the games in a hostile evironment.
Over all of last year Golesh is comfortably in the top third of EPA stats, and in the top 10 in basic yardage stats.

There are times, in practice, you run the wheels off a team. Makes me wonder why our backs looked slow.
If you watch the sequence of the last Auburn drive, you can see a difference in execution. The final play, being Brown going in for a TD. A typical off tackle run for him……..either Baylor ran a failed attack on the play…..or the OC for Auburn figured out the blocking scheme to break Brown loose.

The expectations are higher now. While I wouldn’t personally boo game 1 when Auburn spend the money it does and we perennially underperform the patience isn’t going to last long.

Offenses have flattened out bc of these rule changes and portal… it’s minor league football playing nfl rules. It’s all about your qb and turnover margin.
Spav scored 16 points on Saturday… baker looked like a genius bc he’s got a 6 yr qb that was developed by someone else. Weiss looks like a genius bc he’s works under kiffin.

Well it is. Just like with Gus when the talent isnt there the offense falls on it's face. The offense is less varied. There is really only one side of the field running routes. I will end up right again and you will be mad fumbling your words.

I thought the Golesh O, through super wide WR splits, forced the defense to commit a floating defender (usually a safety) to basically commit to either covering outside or inside (pass or run). But Baylor was able to still contain by stacking the box for the run and playing 2 deep at the same time, without AU exploiting other areas of the field?
