She is the goat of her sport, and do you actually think someone who is the goat could get to that point being mentally weak??

I’m sure your mental fortitude has made you the acme of your career. What do you do btw?

She checked herself out. Weak. As for her being the GOAT. That’s great. Cannot fact check you, cannot even recall wanting to learn the names of her competitors.

I do remember one gymnast that was on the ESPN body magazine couple years back and that arse was hot af.

I guess I see it differently.

Biles has been in the white hot spotlight for awhile. The last year with COVID overlay has to be hard on all young people- even the famous. She also had to relive the trauma of being sexually abused by the team doctor. She may have had an anxiety attack. Mental health issues have exploded during the pandemic. Athletes are human.

She didn't drop out of the team competition bc of injury but bc she mentally wasn't all there? What's with that? She said she wasn't going to help her team so she thought they would step up without her.

The greatest gymnast didn't have it mentally today?

I can see both sides of the argument.

A GOAT doesn't crack under pressure. This almost certainly tarnishes her legacy. The uproar if she competes in the individuals will be deafening too.

On the other hand, gymnastics is a uniquely dangerous sport when your body isn't listening to your head. Ever heard of the "twisties?" Yeah. Had she competed it goes well beyond just sinking the team's overall score. She could seriously injure herself too. It's not like LeBron going out there and going 1 for 15 from the field as he tries to shoot his way out of it.

I agree. I can definitely see both sides of it.

I hate that she quit on her teammates, but only she knows where her head was and if she honestly thought it was best for her to step aside, than we all have to accept that's what she thinks was best. She did that first vault and it was pretty bad. I think she just kind of snapped mentally and either lost confidence or whatever it was that made her think she couldn't keep going.

And at this point for her, anything less than gold is considered an absolute failure. That's an absurd, and honestly, pretty unfair amount of pressure. That's been building up over the time and just came to a head.

I will say that she's played into the whole GOAT ideal too, so she's not totally innocent in all that. And there is something to be said for those that are considered the greatest to tough it out and fight through whatever adversity is there, but for someone who's put in the amount of work/time/sweat/injury/tears, etc that she has and that's still at the top of her game to bow out, I think that really means that something bigger is going on with her.

Who cares at this point everything is just theater. If she's injured she "can't" compete. If she isn't she can. So if she just chooses not to and then does the individual round she's just selfish but what else do you expect these days. Her BRAND is greater then her desire to compete for her country. For now the superstars have no interest in country only about what they can get out of it.

She's already pulled out of the individual.

I mean she clearly isn’t looking her best out there, she racked up penalties in multiple events and still made the finals in each.

she pulled out of the individual all around. The true individual events don't start until next week. She is being evaluated daily. She may still compete in those.

She basically loses a sense of where she is in the middle of her big moves that she is known for in a condition gymnast call "the Twisties" where muscle memory no longer functions and can be dangerous with how much height and movement she does. In other words she was doing the unselfish thing and letting her other team members shine and not letting her faults ruin the chances of the other team members for a medal.

Seeing as how she's won 30 Olympic and International medals in about 10 years, I think we collectively owe her a thank you.

I just looked into her past and she decided to home school in 2012(15 years old), so she could train for 32 hours a week vs 20, and that's probably a conservative number. She's basically dedicated her entire life to performing at the highest level she can for this country. Was that her choice? Yes. But it's also her choice and her right at this point to say "what's in it for me?"

For her to quit after such a career knowing that this would hurt her brand leads me to believe 100% that she could not perform. Suni Lee beat her the last time out, she was making uncharacteristic mistakes.

GoAT is a relative term and not something that last forever. You're acting as if the Jordan of old could still be NBA good or the best boxer forever able to take a punch.

If she never competes again, she'll still be GoAT until unseated,.
