Zero speed sweeps or reverses.

We used the speed sweep way too much with the lack of a passing game the past few years. That being said, Shivers or Schwartz should get one or two a game.

Saving that for Georgia my friend.

That play has been very successful for us..

I haven't rewatched the game but I thought Shivers most successful carry of the game was a speed sweep. Might be remembering it wrong, could have just been off tackle + bounce
Edit: Just looked at the play. It was actually a dive play that he bounced outside.

I noticed there was much less run up the middle or off tackle on first down. It happened, but not every single first down as we are used to.

I agree that speed sweep is a great wrinkle play, felt like we sometimes ran it as a bread and butter play in recent years

We definitely did and defenses definitely keyed in on it
I think if you plotted it out you’d find that against good competition, the average yard gain per speed sweep trended down as it kept getting called.

One major thing that Gus has struggled to grasp in his transition from high school to college coaching is that your opponents watch a frick ton of film. And not only that, but they drill the film into their players heads.

Hope so. Schwartz needs the ball more on sweeps.

If he gets less than 10 touches in any big game it's a crime. That's like going to battle but forgetting your extra mags.

I think we’ll open things up this week, after running a fairly basic and vanilla plan in week 1.

Agree. He is a dumbass about that. I hope he knows now that you can watch film and pick those things up

Or sugar huddles
Which may be why we didn't see any speed sweeps. The two seem to go hand in hand when Gus is calling the plays.
