For those who say AU shouldnt go a head and pull the trigger on Gus, TENN just fired their DL coach after the lost to KY.

Only negative - the dollars and cents.

Why are we still discussing a coaching search when there is no coaching spot. Gus ain’t getting fired on the spot and just about all but assured completely that he will be here next year.
When that time comes we have to get a head coach that understands what he’s getting into. The roster will have enough talent that the expectation will be the same as they are for Gus. The coach also needs to understand both sides of the ball must be good to very good. The biggest must is the coach and the staff absolutely have to be great recruiters and good talent developers.
If you can’t identify that in a head coach then why make a change?

You may be right.
But, there should be some heavy duty cost/benefit analysis going on in Allen Greene's office right now. The difference in cost of the buyouts vs. projections of future lost revenue are getting closer together every day.
And while we're all throwing around arbitrary names....why wouldn't Brent Venables be a good choice?

I’m not saying there aren’t options out there but in my opinion just ain’t happening this year. It’s a money thing. Nothing more and nothing less.
AD Greene appears to be looking towards facilities improvements... FINALLY That also ties his hands some.
Now if the team totally collapses and the players stop giving effort that might change things some but it would cost around 30 million at the end of the season to get rid of everyone. Then you have to pay someone to come.
Not saying we should wait Saban out but we better bring in a recruiter for sure until he’s gone because there is a huge talent gap between Bama UGa LSU and the rest of the conference

I doubt it would happen, but I would be fine running with an interim for the remainder of the season.
Besides, when was the last time a college coach was fired and replaced in the same season? We would be limiting ourselves too much by only looking at coaches available now.

Awestruck, I asked the question legitimately if we should use this season to build young quality depth. With inexperienced OL DL RB DB even if they are juniors and some seniors in the starting lineup they weren’t talented enough to be young starters. Should we take our lumps in some games this year to build depth. This team and roster as it stands with starters isn’t a championship team anyway even if we were playing solid ball.
I still think we should consider it. Not a throw away season you play to win but you also understand the future. Just an example Cam Riley and Steiner should have already been on the field more then special teams already for LB depth. Irving should be getting some snaps at center.

Me - at the expense of the seniors, no; however at the expense of the team I'd definitely mix in the young and hungry. But that'd be my style anyway... not an attendance award... but an it's time to really see what you got. eta: I'm big on sink or swim.
And because it seems AU getting ready in the off season appears nebulous with Gus.

Oh yeah? Which part of it is a reach?
FIU's first football season ever was in 2002. Cristobal replaced Don Strock who had a 15-41 record (and later had 10 wins vacated due to NCAA sanctions to bring his official record to 5-41). They went 0-12 in the season prior to Cristobal being hired. At FIU, Cristobal went:
1-11
5-7
3-9
7-6 (Conference Title, first winning season in school history)
8-5
3-9
Yes, its a losing record...but do you understand that situational analysis is kind of an important angle that needs to be understood? He took over a complete dumpster fire total-rebuild and won a conference title in his 4th season. After he was fired, his replacement Ron Turner never won more than 5 games - so he was more successful than both the guy he replaced, and the guy that replaced him. He walked into an extremely difficult situation and its obvious that he wasn't fully ready to be a head coach as he had minimal experience; hence why his 4 years as the AHC under Saban is an important turning point. His stint at Oregon has been nothing short of a success - they are winning and he has brought their recruiting up big time. They are recruiting better than we are.
Looking at "winning percentage" without doing more thorough analysis is chicken-shite evaluation. If you want to test that theory; how impressive was Nick Saban's resume coming into LSU? Prior to his 5th season as MSU, he was a 6/7 win coach with an 0-3 Bowl record.

... and he can recruit in the SEC.
