Cristibal is the obvious answer. He checks all of the boxes.

I almost wish he'd kick the bucket just so people would quit linking him to AU.

I don't get the Cristobal candidacy. He was a great recruiter for Bama while he was at Bama -- tough job -- but he has an overall losing record as head coach.

I'd hire Hugh Freeze and deal with the backlash later

His experience since being HC at FIU could easily change the way he goes about being an HC, and it's showing at Oregon. We'll see how Oregon looks once PAC 12 play resumes, but there is a reason Oregon wanted him to be their HC.

He took over a 0-win FIU team that was vacating all sorts of wins in the years prior to his arrival and brought them to a 7 and 8 win season with a conference title. Yeah, he got canned after a 3-9 season (not really sure why they pulled the plug so fast given their overall program expectation) and the guy that came after him couldn't even replicate his 7-8 win highs before being replaced himself. Its a pretty shitty bottom-end job and he did about what you'd ask and at the minimum took a complete reset and showed that he could win some games, and more games than his predecessor/succors.

He parlayed that with a 4-year stint at Alabama where he walked in an immediately received the AHC title despite not even being a coordinator, which should be telling with regards to how significant Saban felt that he was in terms of granting him those titles (RC as well). It is assumed/reported that he learned a lot from Saban, which is what vaulted him to the Oregon job where he's showing that he's a top-end recruiter (as was expected) as well as winning games. Conference title in his 2nd season there, and in his first full season he still won a few games as the underdog against ranked PAC10 opponents.

Why isn't he a good candidate? Because his team barely lost to us on a last second touchdown in the first game of the season? If they flipped the schedule around and we played Oregon later in the year, they would have killed us. His team bounced back from that close loss, ended up absolutely killing #5 Utah as the underdog to win the PAC10, and then beat #8 Wisconsin in their Bowl game. Wisconsin is a team that we know first hand to show up for Bowl games, given that we can't seem to beat them.

He is doing really good things in Oregon; recruiting at an elite level in Oregon, has a good coaching pedigree in that he thrived under Saban for four years, and he has ties to this state/region already. That is what makes him a good candidate.

Yeah I’m with you. His record at FIU is actually impressive considering the program. Oregon was a stout team at the end of the year.

He's putting Oregon in a position to be better and better each season. That's all I really need to see in a head coach.

We are seeing Bruce do it in basketball, and we know how satisfying it is.

If we pull the plug on Gus, the search committee should consist of Allen Green and Bruce Pearl. I don’t care if Bruce knows anything about football - I want him to pick the personality that he wants in a coach.

This is of course tongue in cheek but I’m kinda half serious

I would be 1000% on board with this...I'm serious. I actually suggested this either on here or another board. I think the team of Greene and Pearl would make a great, neutral, hire.

This is going to ruffle some feathers, but...

If we want to compete and win championships immediately, the first call should be Urban Meyer.

It will end badly in 5-7 years, but during that span he will win multiple SEC titles and probably a natty or two.

I'd rather not. I don't know if he has a third run in him, and I'd give him 2-3 years, not 5-7.

I would be interested in Bob Stoops if he showed interest as well. I think he has a little fire in him, and a new program might be just what he needs...kind of like Rick Barnes at Tennessee.

Would not be my 1st choice and I think he is past his prime as a coach, I'm, all in on Mario as 1st choice.

No clue if Stoops has any fire or not. Would have him 5-8 years ar most. Not bad thing I guess. He would be instant name recognition on the trail though.
