What about Jeff Grimes?... he’s OC at BYU... former auburn and LSU OL coach. He’s a hell of a recruiter and has a solid offense in provo

I'll throw a couple names out to "the base" (No particular order):
1. Steve Sarkisian - OC at Bama. Not just because it would take away from them but because he's a really good coach. That offense hasn't missed a beat. If not for his past drinking problem, he'd be a HC somewhere right now. He's very underrated IMO.
2. Andy Avalos - DC at Oregon. Just look up his history. He's going to be a big name soon. My hesitation with him is if it's too early to take a chance on a guy like this in the SEC.
3. Brent Venables - DC at Clemson - If there's anyone you should just say name a price to, it's him. One of the best coaches and recruiters in the country.
4. Pat Fitzgerald - HC at Northwestern - He seems to really like a school that provides terrible resources and continues to provide results. He's the "proven HC" guy that would bring stability. Not sold on his ability to recruit, which would mean he would have to hire an incredible staff.
SHOT IN THE DARK - Kellen Moore - OC for Cowboys. Not sure he'd ever leave the NFL but he's thrived under 2 NFL coaches. Plus, his life started in college football, I'm curious if he'd ever return.

Northwestern is his Alma Mater. I bet he really likes it.

To the AU poster on the rant claiming Gus to the Falcons, please stop. My heart can only handle so much disappointment.

I decided to get the ball rolling on that rumor
Hell, Kingsbury was awful at Texas Tech, got fired and got an NFL job, so hope springs eternal!

My short list...
Kevin Steele - can hold together For the most part a really good set of position coaches on both sides of the ball and hopefully not impact recruiting to much. I would hate to lose coach garner, Williams, and Cadillac.
Mario Cristobal - first coach I go to if I’m rebuilding the entire staff. He knows the SEC, knows Bama, proven winner, recruiter and can rebuild the position that needs the most help, our OL.
PJ Fleck - more risk but absolutely dismantled a much more talented Auburn team in the bow game last year.
I do not get the kiffin love. The guy has a worse record as a power 5 coach than malzahn, slept with an Alabama boosters wife while coaching there, and has not shown that he can build a program at this level. Anyone that wants to call out his offensive success thus far at ole miss needs to also call out the fact that his defense is allowing 50 points a game.

Kevin Steele has been very average without Muschamps recruits, and an absolutely terrible head coach.

I just don't want any AU retreads. Please hire someone without AU ties.

I could get on board with that. I think it’s a matter of how long we want to take to rebuild.. if we compete for SEC championships every year I’m ok with growing pains for 2-3 years

Make a run at Chris Peterson. With SEC talent who knows what he could do.
Or
Meyer but everybody tends to start their cycle when that name is mentioned.

Ummm we have enough talent to compete, we just need a competent staff

For those that are Pooh Poohing over themselves for Lane’s offense and he is a great offensive mind. Jeff Grimes offense just took BYU to 5-0 with a 43-26 win over Houston and the offense basically looks unstoppable.
Like I said weeks ago when a change is made...
Cristobal is my number 1.
Grimes is in the 2nd spot
Lombardi 3rd

Why Grimes?
I don't understand his high opinion. He is coaching BYU? What kind of defenses does he have to face in that league?
HE's never been a HC and he's 52. Why would we take a chance at a major SEC school when no one else HAS been knocking on his door for a HC job?
It just doesn't sound right as an option below Cristobal...

Watch the offense. The physical nature and the scheme.
I will never be on the Lane Bandwagon that is a hard pass no for me. So that is just hyperbole at this point.
Plus thinking outside the box and 52 isn’t that old anyway. You get a good 10-12 years out of a coach if they are really good now anyway. He’s been successful in his job whatever it’s been. OL coach and now OC.

I'm not doubting the offense he runs, but for him to 52 that IS pretty old to start off as a HC.
As we have learned w/ Gus, being an OC and successful doesn't equal being a great HC.
And while I like Cristobal, Some of these guys really like where they are, and just use a major P5 team like Auburn for leverage to get them a nice big fat raise.
