I'm 45 years old and can remember every Auburn game since the late 1980s. I can honestly say this win Saturday over Georgia is the most unexpected win of my lifetime.

I racked my brain to come up with my top 5 most unexpected... here's my list:

1. 2026 Georgia
Self explanatory.

2. 1999 Georgia
Auburn had lost 5 of our last 6 games and Georgia came into the game 6-2. Ben Leard's first game back from injury saw Auburn jump out to an absolutely shocking 31-0 halftime lead in Athens. The total domination was the most shocking part. The end of the Donnan era.

3. 2002 Alabama
No Carnell, no Ronnie, no Chris Butler. Auburn was starting our 4th string running back, Tre Smith. Bama was 9-2 and highly ranked. Game in Tuscaloosa. It was bleak but Auburn jumped out early and never looked back. The end of the Franchione era.

4. 2001 Florida
Auburn came into the game having lost by 17 points to Syracuse and had beaten Vandy (2-9) and Miss State (3-8) by a combined 5 points... those were the 3 most recent games. Now #1 Florida came to town. Auburn shocked the world with the last minute FG going through the uprights moments before an absolute downpour.

5. 2007 Florida
Auburn was 2-2 with losses to USF and Mississippi State. The defending national champs and #2 Florida Gators came to town and Auburn shockingly beat them.

What other games at I missing?

That's pretty solid. 2002 bama is my number two now behind 2026 georgia

I can still remember watching that game going into it thinking “we’re screwed”

Then this kid I’d NEVER heard of named Tre came in and absolutely DOMINATED

That Iron Bowl turned out to be “Tre Smith’s World” and we were just blessed to be able to witness & be living in it

obviously you’re too young to remember the GOAT:

but the 1993 UF game was pretty unexpected - AU hadn’t beaten any team that would finish above .500 and had to rely on a last minute goalline stand to hang on to beat Vandy in Nashville, while the Gators were coming off a 58-3 demolition of LSU (granted, AU had beaten them by 24 a few weeks before)

I’d add 2013 trip to college station to that list.

Your list is good btw… 2002 bama game will always be up there. No one gave us a shot in hell.

I don’t remember Tre being a complete unknown entering that game. He was a known quantity at least for me. He’d been a speed sweep guy all season IIRC and returned kicks in spots.

I remember being more worried that we didn’t have a true fullback in front of him and Cooper Wallace had to move from TE to FB and did a really good job.

And if you remember, our starting fullback Brandon Johnson was out injured and we moved TE Cooper Wallace to FB for that game. We beat Bama’s arse in their house with a 4th string TB and a converted TE in the backfield. It was 17-0 before they score an insignificant TD to make it look respectable. We beat that arse.

Mildly I remember some wins against Florida 2011 and Spurrier at South Carolina that shocked me

Good list.

Honorable mention for me would be 2017 UGA just because of the final score. I did NOT ever expect to beat a #1 UGA team 40-17 that day.

My top 3 would be Saturday, '02 Bama and 01/07 Florida. Take your pick from the Florida games.

Wasnt Bob Petrino OC in that 2002 Bama game IIRC…

Besides Saturday, I’m going to have to go Pat Nix to Frank Sanders 36-33 win over the Gators at the Swamp when Spurrier was absolutely dominating everyone and running scores up on everyone so that he covered huge point spreads. I remember a reporter asking him specifically about trying to run scores up on purpose and he said “Gotta keep my boosters happy!”

It was at UF. 2006 was at home. But yes remember that game vividly with Wes Byrum doing the chomp at the end to win on a walk off FG.

2002 Alabama game

Someone copied the Alabama forum for the game. Comment still cracks me up - "We're making this little white guy look like Bo Jackson"

2021 LSU. Blo Dix decided to have a good game after looking like prime Keihl Frazier vs Georgia State

I think 1993 LSU needs a mention. We hadn't won in Baton Rouge since the 1930's. LSU wasn't as good as they have been since, but that Auburn team was completely unknown but also unseen because of no TV that year.

None. All the others listed were not surprising really. In 2013 AU went to the natty game. By the time UGA and Bama rolled around, AU was already a top 5 team.

1994 Florida is the best comparison, though even it wasn't as shocking. AU was a huge dog in Gainesville (20ish points), but that was simply ignorance. AU went undefeated in 1993 and were still on an undefeated streak when they went to Gainesville to face #1 Florida. A big win, but it wasn't really shocking. The point spread being so large was a slap in the face.

I know Auburn was ranked near, if not in, the top 10, but the 2006 Florida win shocked a lot of people. I remember it was a huge atmosphere with Gameday on campus and Barkley the guest picker.

Florida was rolling with Leak, and AU didn't score an offensive touchdown. Trey Smith did a somersault into the end zone on a blocked punt, and if not for a late defensive TD, Sir Charles would have correctly predicted the final score of the game.
