Love Gus, but still don't like all play calls

That last drive - LSU was gassed. Payne was gutting them. Miller's stupid penalty brought us back out to the 9. But it was first fricking down. I really believe CAP and our OL would have scored had we run it 4 times. May have only needed 1.

And the fricking Frazier cameos a couple of times? It is clear Gus is setting him up to be used to pass the ball as a surprise in a big game like Bama. But 2 things:

1. We can't afford those burned downs right now
2. When he finally DOES throw that pass against Bama, chances are he will throw a pick.

if we run it four times from the 9, we may score but the game would've been over.... you have to throw there to leave time on the clock b/c you're down two scores.

as for frazier and the wildcat, I agree... the first half playcalling left me scratching my head. The weather really affected Marshall and his passing... if he hits a couple more passes, thing might've been different.

Yeah maybe you're right.

Would have loved to see CAP mule them over and run it in though. We weren't going to win anyway. Would have been a nice way to show our mettle.

LSU fans are saying they had 2nd and 3rd teamers in there. I don't think that's true.

Frazier in the wild cat is indefensible.

As for Gus, he has always been an inconsistent play caller. Gets too cute at times, but overall he is effective.

I don't think he's setting anything up I think he just feels like he owes Frazier some pt.

I just really wish someone would pull him aside one day and be all like, "Gus baby, love your style but those long developing, side to side plays that require 45 yards of lateral running? Yeah, those are the plays that teams like LSU and Bama are going to turn into TFLs. You talk about exploiting space but 100 yards is a lot more space than 53 baby, throw it down field."

Yeah I can't stress how much that was angering me last night. I was yelling at my TV the whole first half "the middle of the field is open!".. It was nice to see him open the second half running up the middle - and surprisingly AU scored that drive.

CAP is being under used in my opinion and I don't understand why.

It's not like we have been running it poorly. Tre has looked good as well as CAP.

Gus just has a hard time letting go of the Kiehl Frazier project. It's as simple as that.

I didn't really have any problem with the play calling last night. I really thought is was pretty good.

We were handicapped with the weather and a very shaky Marshall in the first half.

We had to mix in some passes when we were running well or LSU walks the safeties up and we can't run anymore.

We could have scored running on that last TD, but there was 1:46 left when we were on the 5 yard line before the penalty. We score right there, we actually have a shot to get the ball back with an onside kick and a minute and a half left.

Really thought Gus called a good aggressive game overall.

That is the kind of play calling that frustrates me to no end with Gus. Keihl has zero business being in the game lined up at QB. He has a really bad tendency to get away from what is moving the ball, and go full Loeffler. Nick finally finds a little rhythm and we put him in a second and long hole because we decide to insert Frazier to run a play that he hasn't been able to run since he got on campus. Our mentality seems to be if it ain't broke, break it.

I agree TiM. People criticize the play calling when we are running the ball well, and Gus calls a play action pass that goes incomplete.

If Marshall hit the WIDE open receivers, it's a great play call and we are in that game all night.

Gus called a pretty damn good game.

Gus has always been known for putting in wrinkles just to mess with future opposing defensive coordinators.

I love Gus also. He over thinks things sometimes and tries to get too cute. That is something we are just going to have to live with.

I'm sure future defensive coordinators are burning the midnight oil gameplanning for when Keihl F'n Frazier comes into the ball game.. If anything future offensive coordinators are trying to decide on their best plays to immediately take advantage of the inevitable Keihl Frazier turnover..
