Thats cool and all but i would not take any of those coaches over Gus. Not Bobby Patrino and certainly not Les Miles and we saw what happened to Tubz as soon as Saban got to town

Agree with this. Maybe early 2010s Petrino, but not now.

Gotta agree with this too...to an extent.

This would be a delicious bump on Saturday if we are down 10-0 midway through the 2nd qtr

Or up by 10 at half?

Moving forward, I'm actually pretty high on Gus. I think it is glossed over that Gus is just now finding his grove with running the program, when before he was still learning the ropes.

It is easy to forget just how inexperienced Gus was when we hired him. Gus was only in CFB for like ~7 years learning from HC greats like Houston Nutt, Gene Chizik and Todd Graham.

Gus had to learn what a successful program does on his own on the fly. Not like he experienced being part of a successful program infrastructure under any of those HCs

Hey, don't knock Chizik. That's my boy right there. Chizik's only mistake (a really big one) was losing the team's trust.

This season will be important for him in regards to this. I've had the same opinion that i've generally been willing to give him time as he is incredibly young as a head coach. He has finally started making some concessions in areas and a few changes in philosophy that have been good. I think he is on a good path, just needs to take that next step forward.

Chizik is a great guy on a personal level. Chizik gave us a national championship under his watch. Chizik even is a great defensive coach.

Make no mistake though, Chizik was definitely a bad head coach.

Based on convos with people who worked on AU's staff/AD under Chizik

- Roster Management: We had depth issues all over the place. Our recruiting didn't plan ahead for depth issues

- Recruiting: Staff relied heavily on recruiting services for evaluation. The amount of recruit films to be cut up shrunk considerably

- Culture: Chizik never was able to build a culture. Coaches like Luper/Trooper were who players looked to

- Coaching Hires: Chizik was not able to identify coaches who could both coach and recruit. Quite a few weren't even able to do one well

I was friends with a backup kicker in 2012 that told me Chizik gave a speech telling the team they were the most talented team Auburn had ever had and were going to be one of the best ones we ever fielded

oh boy did that prediction end up being balls

While that is obviously laughable, with a good QB + coaching, you should win a lot more than 3 games with that 2012 team

Players with meaningful 2012 playing time (Bolded for made NFL Roster)

RB- Tre mason
RB2- OMac

WR- Emory Blake
WR- Sammie Coates
WR- Travante Stallworth

TE- Philip Lutzenkirchen

OL - Greg Robinson
OL - Avery Young
OL - Christian Westerman
OL - Reece Dismukes
OL - Chad Slade

DE- Corey Lemonier
DE- Dee Ford

DT- Gabe Wright
DT- Angelo Blackson

LB- Darren Bates

DB- Chris Davis
DB- Robenson Therezie

As much as we shite on Gus, you'd have to give him credit about addressing the defense with the hiring of Kevin Steele. We've finally fielded defenses that can step up and win us games. I'm def nervous about this game, but Washington's defense is going to be over matched physically.

What makes you say this? Their secondary is legit. We don't know much about our OL.

Their secondary looks legit because the Pac-12 offenses were very bad last year. The most ints they had were 3 from a true freshman.

I remember being content with the Steele hire, since I thought we needed what he brought, well coached fundamentals

Been very happy that Steele not only brought fundamentals but unexpected innovative scheme/ideas.

I have no idea why you guys argue with that guy.

Its kinda like kissing your sister.

Im just waiting for his brother, Huss to show up. If we would have lost, he would have been here already. Which ever one of you is him....

What do you mean almost lost because of coaching? Looked to me like several coaching decisions were the resson AU won the game.

You are about to waste a lot of your time bro.

Him and Jang are not on the Gus Bus. No matter what.

I hated the two point call but if he would have made it, we would have loved it.

What exactly other than the 2 point call are we dinging Gus for? The play calling? I thought that was Chip now.

Once again, our fans want to ding our coach for the bad stuff but not give credit for the good stuff. The run call for the TD was a excellent call.
