2011: #19 UGa (Atlanta)

Good list. Most of that was won with Moore at QB which was his magic to a certain extent. I am not dubbing him as a coach, I am saying you are comparing apples to oranges. You cant talk shite on Boise for all those years saying they only played one team each season which is easy to get ready for vs a coach that is coaching in the best conference in the country and facing very different circumstances. We cant have it both ways.

None of his ranked teams are top 10. Gus has 3 wins against #1 teams in the country and he has only coached a few years. Petterson has been coaching over 12. Plus, where are the recent wins by Petterson? last one was 2011?

I would not take Petterson over Gus in the SEC. No way. He got his arse reemed agents Bama a few years back when they were suppose to be top 5.

Can't say much bad about a guy who beat UGa in Atlanta with WAC talent (AU lost to the Leghumpers by 38 points later that season).

Gus did not coach that Auburn team.

Boise was going undefeated and having one loss seasons years before he was the HC. I'm not saying he can't coach, but to act like he is some savant because he would win his one tough game a year is ridiculous.

Rubber is gonna meet the road Saturday. But I'm sure when Gus outclasses him it will only be because we have better players. Gus also didn't recruit those players FYI

First, Petersen is the only coach with an undefeated FBS season at Boise, which he has 2.

Second, Petersen was the offensive coordinator who is widely credited (like Gus as OC at AU) for the success the predated him under Hawkins, an average HC.

Third, Petersen has more 10+ FBS seasons as all the coaches before him combined

Ok, then Gus Malzahn gets credit for winning a NC and puts the "Who has won more" argument to rest.

You seem to be confused, this isn't about trashing Gus as much as giving Petersen the respect he has earned. Petersen is an elite coach and just about any program would be lucky to have him

Gus can still be a good coach, he just hasn't earned what Petersen has is all

Only sunshine pumper Auburn fans would take Malzahn over Peterson. I would trade them in a heartbeat, and everyone else in the country would too. People on this board just get their panties all in a wad defending Gus.

Im gonna have to call BS on you there brother.

Gus has accomplishments that Peterson wont achieve anytime soon.

He is good but you guys need to stop downgrading Coach Malzahn. He has made mistakes, just like every other coach in history including the God up north, but he has done some pretty incredible things in his short coaching career. The only problem is, you guys have gotten spoiled and only want to thrive on the mistakes end not the accomplishments

He is a very good coach and will do more great things. Just need to stop harping on every bad call

It is weird, I actually like Gus and glad we have him. I think he has the potential to put NC caliber teams on the field

Just because I think Petersen has proven to be a better coach thus far doesn't mean I don't like Gus

I agree with you
If Gus gets 10+ W this season, I'd easily grade him as "success" thus far and optimistic about the future of AU football

I've never got off the Gus bus. I'll criticize his driving at times, but I'm still here for the ride

Petersen has almost identical results as Gus at Washington, a program with significantly less resources, poorer recruiting access and prestige as Auburn.

So if I grade Gus as a success, Petersen is killing it is all.

How has Gus not earned what Petersen has? I think at this point Gus has earned more.

Whatever, the premise of this thread was retarded anyway and I’ll take Gus. Saturday’s almost here. I think I just pooped

I am far, far from a sunshine pumper and Gus aggravates me to death sometimes but I'll take Malzahn. You're underestimating the degree of difficulty of not only winning in the SEC, but also being in-state rivals with the greatest coach in the history of college football. The fact that he hasn't caved and has at times thrived is remarkable. Look at the rest of the league and how long their current coaches have been employed to get a glimpse of what I mean.

Gus just rightfully earned a 7 year extension while going up against the beast.

Like I said in another thread, if I'm evaluating coaches to come coach at Auburn if you can't consistently bring in top 10 recruiting classes it's a non-starter. So Peterson is already behind Gus in that regard.

i doubt that. Its been said before. You will just move that mark again just like everyone has in the past

Less resources to beat teams like Colorado and BYU. Gus is competing against the top teams in the country every year. In the same state / recruiting area as the most decorated program and coach in NCAA history. During their prime

He is not beating Colorado and BYU that is ranked 21st

Also a much easier schedule and they don't have to recruit against Alabama, UGA, LSU, Clemson, Florida, etc for most of their kids. There is definitely a flip side to your argument.
