Again. After watching John Cohen dismantle this athletics department, it’s clear Jay Jacobs shouldn’t have been run out of town.

Maybe, maybe not. If our situation was not so bad, we could deal with the sports changes better. Just like other programs are. But we are in a hole due to bad decisions about firing Jacobs and coaches for “better personnel”. LOL.

Love him or hate him, Jay Jacobs knew Auburn. I mean, it was literally the only place he ever lived and worked.
I have no desire to hire an “Auburn man” just because he’s an Auburn man. But we need to find someone who actually understands our program needs and not someone who wants to reinvent the wheel.

In 2026 Auburn needs someone who is a true executive, from outside of a university, who can be a front office GM. The days of career university bureaucrats running athletic departments are gonna have to come to an end.
University Athletics is now big business and needs to be treated as such. Example - I have a hard time believing Jay Jacobs or John Cohen have the knowledge, vision, or skills necessary to negotiate an exclusive streaming contract with YouTube TV. I don’t believe either of them have the knowledge, vision, or skills necessary to create a comprehensive marketing and corresponding public relations campaign to heighten visibility and reputation of the Auburn brand.
This tireless romanticizing of “good ole boy” puppets is tiresome. If Auburn wants Auburn Athletics to ascend to the highest levels, then the senior leadership teams need to get out of the 1980s and adopt a strategic vision for the future. I can assure you Bobby Lowder’s hand picked “Yes man” (Jacobs) is not the answer.

I don’t remember how I felt about Jay Jacob’s at all. Not sure if I was over him or fine with him staying. I can recall him being hated by many though. Was I one? Quite Possible but I’m not going to search my history of posting.
Gus will always be respected and appreciated by me. However, Gus being let go was the correct thing regardless of the buffoonery since. If you still wanted him when fired you wouldn’t have a year or two later.
