AU wins against teams that finished above .500, first 7 games of Harsin Era: 3
AU wins against teams that finished above .500, all 34 games of Freezus Era: 1
AU losses against teams that finished below .500, all 21 games of Harsin Era: 0

There wasn't much hope going into a game with Harsin. We all knew the outcome and how bad the next one would be.

Harsin never wanted to recruit. He could have had Hugh's roster but he either was too busy effing the intern or he was too busy acting like a douche to recruits.
Dont forget Connor Lew essentially walked into our program as soon as Harsin left. At that point he chose Auburn over Cristobal and Miami- Cristobal a known OL coach. Lew wanted Auburn, not Harsin.

Understatement. Barfield went 8-3 in ‘79 and those two clowns never even sniffed 8 wins. Barfield went 4-2, 3-2-1, and 4-2 in the SEC ‘77-‘79. Not great but head and shoulders above Harsin or Freeze.
He only played 6 conference games a year. The other guys played 8. Makes it harder to compare.

moment in the Harsin era I was a believer. Back to back wins over ranked teams, we were ranked pretty highly deep into October his first season..
I think after the smear campaign on his family, he said frick yall and let me walk away with the bag.
Do just enough to not get fired with cause..

I don't know how good a coach he would've been, but I agree with you. Once this happened, he checked out. As he should have.

This is exactly how I felt for Freeze last season. Even going into the Kentucky game..
You know how bad you have to be lose to a version of Kentucky that is so bleak (even by Kentucky standards!) that their own coach is on the hot seat?

The Kentucky game was so bad. And I was there for it. I drank so many high noons that night.

He has been better than Freeze.
Let's rehash who you white-knighted for.

I have no idea what, if anything, was going on with the young chick/intern. However, if you do a cross country relocation and bring your 25 year old PYT Special Assistant with you, both you and the "special assistant" should know exactly what that looks like. I actually wondered if "special assistant" code was "side piece."
As for Brother Hugh, he won at Ole Miss, and he won at Liberty. Based on that, I thought he should have worked. Clearly, that logic was flawed.
I was happy that we did not give Coach Lac the big job. He gave us a couple of good games (Mike Leach being so mad that he was folding up charirs on the sideline and throwing them down so his players could not sit). Even if he had been initially successful, I did not want to see an Auburn legend have to get fired, as nearly every coach at any top level program ultimately is.

I was there as well. What sucks is those were the very best seats I have ever had for an Auburn home football game (50 yard line, home side, 20 rows up) to watch the worst Auburn game I have ever seen in person at Jordan Hare. (I have seen AU look worse in multiple games in Baton Rouge over the years)
