I'm talking boosters here, not players. Something or someone has always made our coaches regress. I'm not hitting the panic button at 4-1 and I honestly don't see us losing more than 3 more games at the most (aTm, Ga, Bama) but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anything the boosters have done to always piss our coaches off enough to regress.

My personal theory on Gus has always been that he cracks under pressure but he proved me wrong last year by killing Ga and beating Bama. He seems this year to be "pressing" or something like trying to put a square peg in a round hole and I just wonder if boosters are stressing him out, by micro managing, to the point he can't even think rationally any longer.

Booster have zero to do with Gus' inability to scout, hiya lack of preparation of his team, his inability to adjust in game or his roster management. Year 6 and we still see the same garage from year 3

Short answer. Yes. However, it is common with all major programs. You can't ask for money from people and not take their opinion. High earning types are A-typical personalities, and it is apart of the process.

It's certainly a mystery. Our coaches never get better, they always regress.

I once had a theory that winning the Paul Bear Bryant Coach of The Year Award was the kiss of death for an Auburn coach. I'm not superstitious at all, but this was just too much coincidence. Here are the years our coaches won:

Gus 2013
Gene 2010
Tubs 2004
Terry 1993

I don't have to show you the career trajectory of all those coaches after the award. It looked last year like Gus was going to break the trend, and I was even thinking to myself that we needed to ride this out with Gus, break the curse and never accept the award again. It appears Gus is just dying a slower death than some of the others. I still say we tell whoever gives the award where they can stick it if the next Auburn coach wins.

He has a OL recruiting problem mainly because he hired another puppet in Herb Hand.

Pretty much. Frankly if he had a good offensive line, we would probably be the #2 team in the country behind bama. Our D is as good as any in the country and we have an assload of skill position talent and a very good accurate qb (when he is up right and not running for his life).

He is completing less than 40% of his passes 15 yards or more. He is not that accurate this season.

Well, he knows he is probably about to get his dick knocked in the dirt every time he drops back and that isnt conducive to accurate downfield passing.

He was plenty accurate last year and will be again if he can ever get back to feeling confident about having a decent pocket to throw out of at least half the time he drops back.

That has definitely hurt us. Hopefully Grimes can get things turned around, but it is a three year fix............at best.

I also question the strength program for the OL. Our guys never do well with the strength part of the NFL combine.

Yes we do. We have boosters that want to be football coaches (not uncommon at big programs, ours are just particularly awful). Plain and simple. Gus has made his own problems unrelated to Boosters, but we have a couple that I can't wait for them to no longer be around.

It really is amazing how terrible this o-line is after 5 games. Not much room for the backs to run through and Stidham getting pressured. Tega got a straight up beat off the edge a few times.

I would say more than anything Auburn is afraid to be successful in football year after year. Too many boosters I know overlook the mess on the field because Gus is a Christian family man and that makes them proud that he represents them. Until the culture changes and they want the best coach available, I think we are going to struggle and be inconsistent. There is no way we shouldn't be going 50/50 with Bama and loaded with talent. Kids would be lining up to play at Auburn and against Bama in the Iron Bowl. I have friends that know nothing about the state but they love watching that game and want to attend that atmosphere. I know some of you are going to down vote me because you think I hate Gus, I don't. I just want the best coach available for Auburn and the kids coming to play at Auburn.

Yep. Al Del Greco is the embodiment of this kind of booster.

I'm almost certain had a nervous breakdown a couple of years ago. He never fully recovered. He's not the same guy on the sidelines that he was before JJ went full retard.

The thing is that I don't think Gus is some pious coach in the eyes of anyone but a handful of our fans.

He's definitely not Chizik. He can be kind of a dick, he's filled with nothing but coach speak, etc. I think he's arguably closer to better coaches in attitude than some of our people want to admit.

I previously thought that the boosters were pressuring him, as well as the AD, but that should not be an issue anymore as he has FU money with the contract. Now, they might be bugging the crap out of him, but that is on him for not keeping them at arms length.

I am pretty sure this is why Saban is so successful at Alabama. When he got there he basically said "lay off". Bama was in a cycle very similar to what we are in right now.
