I am pretty sure this is why Saban is so successful at Alabama. When he got there he basically said "lay off". Bama was in a cycle very similar to what we are in right now.

Not really, football and winning is everything at Alabama. You think Saban would still be there being 2-4 against Auburn, 0-6 against UT? They would run him out town.

Yea, that's not what he is saying.

The thing is that I don't think Gus is some pious coach in the eyes of anyone but a handful of our fans.

He's definitely not Chizik. He can be kind of a dick, he's filled with nothing but coach speak, etc. I think he's arguably closer to better coaches in attitude than some of our people want to admit.

Younger fans or older fans? I was speaking of experience with older boosters/fans that I have known for decades. The first thing they bring up, is that he is a Christian guy and family man before this season. I will say I haven't talked to anyone lately who is happy about him getting the contract extension. The people are finally seeing that he is just a money grabber.

But you really can't compare the two. Saban had successfully run MSU, LSU, and a stint in the NFL. He had proven experience where he could tell the boosters to back off. Gus doesn't have that. He was barely at Arkansas State for a year if I remember correctly.

I'm not saying they don't think of him that way, I just don't think it makes that much sense to think of him that way.
