Calzada is a major upgrade over Finley

I think this should be viewed as a positive. Is he an elite 5 star QB transfer? No. But that wasn’t realistic because we had one transfer out.
Our ceiling for next season went up with the addition today. Now let’s go get some transfer WR’s and O-lineman and win 8-9 games next season.

It amazes me at the number of Auburn fans who are never happy about anything.
Calzada showed flashes of being a damn good QB in his first year of playing. I am glad to have him and welcome him to the Auburn family.

Yeah, I am good with him and Geriner coming in.
He showed no fear in that game vs Bama.

So we are happy with flashes of greatness now?

Which QB did you want that we had no chance of getting?

The Auburn way. Unfortunately

No one in their right mind thought we were actually going to go out and grab an elite QB prospect in the portal with the O-line and WR situation we currently have. Elite QBs want to go where there is a solid supporting cast.
So we are happy with flashes of greatness now?
Who knows, we may actually get another portal QB that is "elite" by portal standards. Caleb Williams might fit that description. Casey Thompson would be a good get. There is word we are still looking for one more QB in the portal. We also have 4-5 O-linemen visiting in the next several months based on the recruiting thread. If the Potato Posse pulls another great portal class like they did when a bunch of players left last year (upgraded every position), we could actually have a serviceable offense until we can get higher quality HS recruits to build the program with.
Just be patient and trust Harsin's process. He knows QBs better than Gus does. He obviously believes there's a role for Calzada while Geriner gets accustomed to SEC football.

In personally not thrilled or anything but I’m glad we got him. As OP said he raises the ceiling

But, is he an upgrade over Bo? You know- the guy y’all ran off.

If Bo Nix is pussy enough to let people on an Internet forum run him off as you keep claiming, then he doesn’t need to be in an Auburn uniform.
Maybe Oregon fans will be more gentle to his tender feelings.

Maybe their coaches will even give him some players to work with.
If he doesn’t have to put up with shite talent and shite fans around him. It’s a win all the way around.

None of the transfers are fantastic. And it seems like they are getting more hype now because they are transferring.
Caleb Williams is probably the best of the bunch and he has had some ups and downs.

I have heard a lot of people say already:"He beat Bama!" LOL. Sometimes I think that is all 90% of this fan base cares about.
Based on his stats he is a bottom third QB in the league. If you don't believe me, everyone should go and look at his stats. How many years has this guy spent under Jimbo, who has a reputation for developing qb's? But still Jimbo brought in someone else for next season. Harsin may bring in someone else, but if he doesn't he better be or hope Davis is a QB guru because coming off of this season he has to improve or he is probably gone.
I hope that I am wrong.

He’s better than Finley who would’ve been dead last in the SEC. The Iron Bowl was an eye opener on Finley.

He definitely showed he would step in the pocket and take a lick while delivering a well placed ball.....

There is so much wrong in this. First off, have you watched any of his games? If you look at LSU and AU games alone, 2 of hi "bad" games statistically, you will see that stats don't tell the real story.
Thse two games alone he was 35 of 64 for 54%
Of his 29 incompletions...
10 were straight drops by the WR on good throws..
3 were tipped passes at LOS
3 were throw aways
3 were broken up by DBs but were accurate throws
at least 1 was a miscommunication on the route
of the 9 remaining, most were overthrows and uncatchable.
I am no expert, but here is my take.
The Good...
A lot of people mention his release in a bad way, I think he actually has a very good release. The ball comes out fast. He has a nice turn over on his deep balls. He has a cannon too and is a better deep ball thrower than we have had in a minute.
For the most part, he puts the ball in a position for the WR to catch and make a football play. Especially on the short stuff like dump offs to RBs or screens which is important because the guys need to catch it in stride. Part of why Mac Jones was so good for Bama.
He has pretty solid footwork in his drops. He does tend to throw off his back foot a good bit, but appears much more accurate when he does than Nix. (it also isn't as frequent imo)
HE does seem capable of going through progressions.
He isn't Bo in terms of terms of escaping the pocket, but he isn't a statue like TJ either. He is more than capable of extending plays when needed.
His pocket awareness is decent, but could always improve.
The Bad....
He tends to get a little happy feet at times and likes to bounce a bt much for my liking, but Im honestly probably nit picking.
He needs to look off his WRs a little better IMO. There are some plays where he does this well, but you can also find plays where he stairs his man down from the snap.
He needs work on throwing angles and windows. He tends to get passes tipped at the LOS.
Makes a few questionable throws each game in terms of decision. I actually like it because if you watch his games, he also threads the needle in key times because of his willingness to take a chance and ends up making huge plays.
I think he is better off at this point than Bo was by far. With a full spring, summer, and fall camp I expect Harsin and Davis to have a legit QB1 of SEC caliber by fall if this is the guy we roll with. The tools are there.
