Was skimming through another site and there’s speculation that Self is in line for an NBA job and Pearl may be considered . Just for hypotheticals, say Kansas did come calling, AU with SEC money can probably match or surpass any reasonable offer, Bruce seems like he’s loves AU but sooner or later somebody is going to come calling.

I don’t see Bruce leaving. As long as AU has Bruce’s back and gives him the opportunities they continue to give he will stay. Bruce is a the perfect place. We will pay almost top of the line money and he will always be a hero here. At a blue blood if he doesn’t win a championship it’s considered a failed season. Here making the tournament is the only thing required at this point. With his recruiting yearly unless we have a rash of injuries in a season we will be almost a lock for the tourney each year.

If he can get guys like Cooper and Green to Auburn (not a done deal, just an example) then he may not need to. Especially if we keep beating the bluebloods. But Kansas may be the job any coach would struggle to turn down

They will go with a younger coach.

The arena will be named after Pearl at Auburn.

3 national championships at Kansas are expected every 20 years.

I dont think his style would mesh well with pampered, mega rich basketball players

Yeah, Bruce is around 60 right? At the high level of energy/intensity he coaches with, he only has 5ish years in the tank. I honestly don’t see him ever leaving.

I’m sure it’ll be announced tomorrow that he’s heading to Kansas

Could be naive, but I’m really not worried about it. Sure I’ll be nervous when I see his name pop in rumors, but I think he enjoys the small town and the program he has built. I don’t think he wants to uproot his family again and start fresh. I truly think he likes building something his own.

I agree. I just don't see why he would leave for another college job. He is building Auburn's basketball legacy right before our very eyes. We will pay him what it takes for him to stay. The Arena will have his name on it one day at the pace he is going. Going to a bball blueblood, he would just be another name in their history and have much higher expectations from their fanbase.

ETA he has shown Auburn, and Auburn has shown him, he can win here just as easily as he could win somewhere else.

Gus is not a “blue blood” type coach.

Schools that think their farts don’t smell expect their head coach to have behavior that fits in with a country club.

Bruce is not Self, Coach k, Roy williams, calapari, etc.

Bruce is sweaty, loud, tearful, funny, unpredictable, and passionate. He is perfect for a school like Auburn.

Feels like blue bloods wouldn’t want to touch him due to his past if I’m being pretty honest

Plus at his age, I feel like the goal is to finish building Auburn and get his statue built here.

Self has a big NCAA cloud over the program right now. If he leaves, that's a big reason why. I don't see Bruce being an option for Kansas.

I don’t think a Duke, UNC, UK, or Kansas would come after Bruce because of his past.

I could see an Indiana, Arizona, UConn type program kick the tires though. Teams in that 2nd tier, or blue bloods who have fallen off

Edit: although I don’t think a B1G team would hire him because of the stuff with Illinois

The stuff that makes Pearl awesome at a place like auburn or UT (selling the program, firing up the students/fanbase) isn’t needed at a program KUs caliber.... their fans are already rabid and students already all in.

Not to say he couldn’t kill it there... he definitely would... it just doesn’t maximize is talents imo.

That does make him great for schools like Auburn and Tennessee. But his actual recruiting and in game coaching is strong enough to be hired at blue bloods. I’m not too much worried about him leaving though. He is a lot like Dabo in that it no longer makes sense to leave now that he’s already having success here. The way he recruits is key though. If he pulls the Jalen Green’s, he’s fine. If he continues to lose the Kessler’s that are goo goo eyed over bluebloods, it might make him think his potential is capped.

I read yesterday that Gogue had his title of interim President removed. He is perfect for Pearl and ADAG

I am a Auburn grad and I always pull for the basketball team.

But if I had to be honest Auburn basketball was garbage most years before Pearl. We had some good teams and fun years but mostly we were just fodder for the good teams to pad thier records and we seemed to lost in the first or second round of the NIT.

Auburn basketball is Bruce Pearl. He built it and he owns it. I think Pearl likes this aspect of Auburn.

If he went to UK or KU he would just be another coach.

I don't see Pearl going to the NBA but I think his style would work there.

His ability to get people to buy in and play hard would work there.
