Can’t imagine we will be excited about an early kickoff against Minnesota
It's a 1 pm game. That's not early, especially for a new years day game.

Defense travels and will show up. AU wins 31-20

@BMattAU
Gus Malzahn expects Marlon Davidson and the rest of Auburn's draft eligible players to play in the Outback Bowl.
With everybody playing I think we win 31-14.

It’s good for preseason polls to blowout ur bowl opponent and show off some young bucks doing it.
Nix needs a big day, throw for about 350
Hang 40+

42-10. I love Fleck, but these Gophers aren't ready for our defense. I think Gus gets the offense going with the long break.

Martin missed several games during the 10-2 season. He sat out the opener, serving the final leg of a two-game suspension for violating team rules that also took him out of last year's Quick Lane Bowl. He missed the final nonconference game with a foot sprain. He then sat out games against Maryland and Penn State after enduring an apparent knee injury at Rutgers on Oct. 19. He also appeared to injure himself again in the regular-season finale against Wisconsin, though he did finish the game.
Despite all that, he still came in second on the team with 66 tackles, including two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a sack and a pass break-up.
Also from the article:
quote:Carter also leads the Gophers in sacks and TFL.
But the Gophers have several draft prospects this year, including senior receiver Tyler Johnson, senior defensive end Carter Coughlin and fourth-year sophomore Antoine Winfield Jr. Winfield, for example, is deliberating on whether to return to the Gophers or declare for the draft with two years of eligibility remaining.
Winfield led the Gophers with 83 tackles and seven interceptions.
I'm sure losing three defensive starters, including their top 2 tacklers, would help our offense out tremendously.

27-17 Auburn
Rust from the lay-off makes both teams sloppy and keeps things reasonably close.

Looking at the Gophers stat lines:
They finished the year ranked #23 in total defense against FBS competition, allowing only 5.03 yards per play (AU was #16 at 4.87).
Impressive, until you look at their schedule and see that they played only one team in the top 35 in total offense agasinst FBS teams, that being Wisconsin at #16 (6.45 ypp). AU faced the two teams tied for #2 (LSU and Bama at 7.7 ypp), #18 Oregon (6.43) and #32 Florida (6.21). The second most prolific offense the Fightin' Flecks faced was Fresno State, who tied with 3 other teams for #40 (6.07) - which was just behind AU's 5th best offensive opponent, #39 Tulane (6.09).
At the bottom end of offensive firepower, Minny faced 6 teams who finished with fewer yards per offensive snap than AU averaged over the course of its 11 games against FBS teams (we ended the year #76 at 5.57 yards per play). In contrast, AU faced only one team with an offense less efficient than our own, #96 Arky (5.22).
Now imagine that defense minus at least one, and as many as 3-4 starters sitting out for the bowl...

I’d also add that they are not very good at creating negative plays on defense... minn ranks in the bottom half of the BIG in both TFLs and sacks.
A big part of our success on offense relies on avoiding negative plays.
