Auburn Outback Bowl practice notes: Jay Jay Wilson returns, Tigers work ‘worst-case scenarios’

quote:

-- H-back/wide receiver Jay Jay Wilson has joined the team in Tampa after missing practice earlier in the week while dealing with some personal business. Wilson was in uniform and grouped with the rest of Auburn’s receivers during the open portion of practice.

-- Wide receiver Anthony Schwartz, who was injured on the first play of the Iron Bowl, was still in action and working with the first-team offense on Sunday. Schwartz had an elastic band running down the back of his right leg all the way down to his cleat. Gus Malzahn said Friday that he expects Schwartz and receiver Eli Stove to be available against Minnesota.

-- Auburn worked on an unbalanced offensive line during the early position drills, with Bailey Sharp at left tackle, Marquel Harrell at left guard, Nick Brahms at center, Mike Horton at right guard, Jack Driscoll at right tackle and Prince Tega Wanogho as the extra lineman on the right side. During those drills, Auburn ran a couple of reps in which it split Wanogho out wide and mimicked a pass (or a fake) to him.

-- With the unbalanced first-team line, Auburn shook up its second unit along the line. Austin Troxell, in an orange non-contact jersey (due to his ACL recovery), was at left tackle, with Tashawn Manning at left guard, Jalil Irvin at center, Brodarious Hamm at right guard and Alec Jackson at right tackle. During Friday’s practice, Jackson was at left tackle, with Hamm at right tackle and Sharp at right guard, while Troxell worked off to the side by himself.

-- Along with Troxell, two other players remained in orange non-contact jerseys: running back Mark-Antony Richards and long snapper Bill Taylor. Richards did not have a brace on his surgically repaired leg and appeared to be moving around well.

-- Toward the end of the viewing window, Gus Malzahn went through some formation-by-formation “worst-case scenarios” with Auburn’s offense, in the event the Tigers see certain looks from Minnesota on New Year’s Day. Malzahn explicitly said the team would not run any plays while the media was watching, but the seventh-year head coach still went through some detailed X’s and O’s with his offense to have them prepared for Wednesday’s game.

Isn't it kind of counter productive to put some of this info out

Before the game?

Just coming to say the same thing. Everyone is slipping, no cutting ability on this turf. I hope we have the cleats picked out and I hope no one loses a knee/ankle.

I'm not as football savvy as some of y'all, but what in the practice notes would be considered counter productive? I don't really see anything that would help Minnesota in any way.

I may change my prediction to a lower score.

I don’t trust our offense.

Gus has been extra paranoid lately. He had a table propped up against a door yesterday.

Maybe for good reason, Minnesota was just accused of filming their opponents bowl practice last year

That field is complete shut every year. It was complete shite when we played there in 2009. It is an embarrassment of an NFL stadium.

There is just too much coverage of what teams practice. Remember when Gary Danials called our jump pass before it happened?

If we are practicing some heavy right or heavy left plays it just seems that it would be for the bowl game and that there is no reason of giving them that info ahead of time.

Plus, Minnesota has a history of being nosy. That and the fact Gus usually has a play or two up his sleeve is why I dont think there should be so much coverage and it should not be printed

Although it's not beyond Gus to offer misinformation.

Heard Marcello talking on the radio yesterday about how Gus literally walked the campus around the practice field to see where possible spy viewing spots could be

Had no idea Minnesota got caught doing this last year. Changes my mindset

When my brother played, my wife and I used to go watch practice all the time. Just walk up and sit on the sidelines.

Fair enough, but the practice notes mostly had players who were back and talking about a shuffling of our O Line and the only other thing was that they were going to practice on a few things if Minnesota has any tricks up their sleeves. I still don't see how any of that is damaging in any way but ok.

Maybe the talking about players being back might help Minnesota to practice for them, but that's about the only thing I can think of in the practice notes that would be helpful for them.

Thinking both beast Brown and Davidson will be in feast mode. Bo should be almost tired of watching Minny's game film. Boobies always look good in Florida. And I know for a fact there's a Waffle House in Tampa.
