got any examples of this two tier system of treating coaches differently based on their respective sports?

Are you retarded?

Pearl went like 12-20 in his second season at auburn and finished last in the league…. And guess what?…no one gave a shite.

Harsin is getting fired for basically the same production in year 2.

Boise State, a program that was already long developed and winning, and managed to drive the bus.

It’s interesting to me that pretty much every coach who has left Boise to go onto another program has failed. With the possible exception of Chris Peterson, and went to Washington, but even he didn’t have stellar success. He was solid but not great.

He can bring the players in and hit decent assistants. He has the name to make a big, positive news splash. Everyone would be pulling for Prime to be successful.

We knew what Pearl could do. We also knew Pearl wasn’t hemorrhaging talent doofus.

No, I was off to Google who the heck he was. Then I tried to talk myself into giving the guy 4 years to "build" his program.

I was wrong. He never built anything & was the wrong guy.

Petersen had a great run at UW… including conference titles and a playoff birth. They were at an extreme low point after sark.

that has absolutely zero to do with being a media darling/"clown"

And trying to equate records of Auburn basketball pre Bruce to Auburn football is disingenuous.

Hero or Zero. I love it.

After this season of graduates and transfers, we might have the least amount of talent in the SEC. We absolutely have to have someone that will come in here and RECRUIT. Everything else is secondary IMO.

Try talking yourself into a coach that uses his name and ego to bring recruits in, and not the exact opposite. That or try to convince me we are getting Kiffin or Aranda.

The point is you can clown it up if you’re the basketball coach bc the expectations are so different… everyone thinks it’s cute.

Football coaches can’t get away with that.

Probably an upgrade to what we had this year.

Do you watch the games or get blind drunk and hour before kickoff.? The problem we have is a QB that can’t hit the side of Haley Center from the Concourse. I know our line sucks but in every game beside Penn St and UGA we have people wide open and he misses them. Not to mention his turnovers that cost is the Ole Miss game. The plays are there the play calling has been good.

You're definitely not alone. We can't afford another crap shoot right now. We need a proven HC.

The guy we just fired had damn near an 80% win percentage when he came here. I think we need the right coach for the job doesn’t have to be a proven head coach, but overall the dysfunction in the AD has to end as well.

I mean are we seriously arguing whether we have two different standards for a football coach vs a basketball/baseball coach?

That’s the dumbest argument of all time. Of course we have two different standards. You get a lot more slack in Basketball/baseball.

Bruce inherited a really bad program that was dead for years. Sure Bruce got more slack. He had to have it.

Harsin inherited the 14th most talented roster that could do 8-5 in their sleep.

Bruce built a program. Harsin tore his apart.

Bruce was well liked; only one player pretended to be sad to see Harsin go.

They’re both completely apples and oranges.

Harsin/Bruce aside, do you think we have a different set of standards for baseball/basketball than football? Say both programs are coming off a good season.

The answer is absolutely yes. The fanbase as a whole does not care as much about basketball/baseball as football. That’s just a fact. We have more history, tradition tied to football which creates higher standards.

I don’t really know how this came up as I didn’t follow the entire argument but that much should be easy to admit for any Auburn fan.

Not a chance in hell Tony Barber’s level of results would be tolerated for four years, or Lebo for 6 in football.

I’m iffy on Prime. No doubt he gets players excited. I do wonder if the way he motivates current team would translate to the players he’d attract at Auburn.

Last year, I would have said absolutely not to Lane, but I think he’s matured a lot. Out of all the names floated, he’s my top choice over Prime. He has proven head coaching experience in SEC and knows what it takes. I’d rather go with the safer hire (Lane) than the unknown of Prime.

That said, I’d rather take a chance on Prime over Rhule and Grimes. And definitely don’t want Freeze.

I’ve also wondered if there’s a Brian Kelly coach out there - someone who you’d never think they’d leave their current gig and is a proven head coach - who Auburn might land.

thats a dumb take. You telling me a coach at kentucky can just "clown" it up bc there are lowered expectations? frickin laughable
