I don't think we give KJ Britt enough love. Dude plays like a man possessed.

Great OP and some good follow up points from others. This was a solid game for our team.

KJ Britt

Had no idea he could run like does. Dude flies around the field like crazy. He and Pappoe give our MLB speed we haven't seen in a long time.

And they are both tackling machines.

Our LB corps is enhanced form last year. I said all offseason they would be a strength not a liability by midseason...I still feel that way.

Britt and Pappoe are a great duo. There is no drop off when #31 Chandler Wooten or #35 Zacoby McClain come on the field. They all have elite closing speed.

Only criticism I have on the LBs is that we have to improve in pass coverage. Someone else pointed out in another thread about them jumping routes and leaving their zone. That is the only weakness in these LBs thus far. T-Will for Assist Coach of the Year

Gus actually made some 2nd half adjustments. It was nice to see him not sitting on a lead.

Well, he tried to sit on the lead, but it was nice to see him rev the offense back to production mode and score.

How is it that I keep talking about DEs and bucks and you keep jumping back to the whole DL?
Does part to whole mean any thing to you or are you intentionally trying underhanded shite to redirect the argument?

I'll leave this after the comment, but you are wrong. The DL has played well despite the issues you pointed out. Marlon and Coe have played well and both play end and/or Buck at times. Marlon has twice been named POW. TD and Cat have to get better but they are better than they were last season.

In the end the offsides mentioned made no impact. Auburn won...rather easily since A&M never possessed the ball in the final 3 quarters with a chance to tie the game. I suspect when the film is graded there won't be a single DL with a bad grade and a few of them will have excellent grades. The entire 2nd half we basically played a soft version of prevent and A&M went to quick drops.

To me this is the most pleasant surprise of the season. I expected them to be athletic, but I assumed they would make some rookie type mistakes. They haven't played perfect but man have they played well.

Not going to follow the 5 format but I think it was OK to sit on that lead with how the defense was playing. And it wasn’t totally the idea — Gus dialed up several good knockout shots that Nix couldn’t throw on target. That game was closer to a 21 point blowout than the solid 8 point road win.

Our offense is going to beat most teams if we don’t turn the ball over. That starts with Nix. He needs to dial in those long balls if he wants to win Auburn a game we shouldn’t win.

It was a nice change to usual Auburn sports in that the outcome never seemed in doubt. Enjoyed that whole game for the most part. Very fun road win

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think it was wrong to slow it down, but was pointing out that he in fact did.

I agree with you on everything you said for the record.

Although I can't say I didn't have a little snippet of oh shite, not this again.

Neither did well pass rushing. Neither had a sack or a QB hurry and only Coe had a TFL.

I agree but this is different than they were “playing at a high level.”

Every game I’m getting more and more curious to see Gatewood really get an opportunity to run our offense. Nix has done a fine job, but through four games, I have a hard time believing the passing between him and Gatewood can be that different. It really would be interesting to see Gatewood with the full ability to pass and run.

Good summary. Was at the game and here are some things I saw:

1) Even though Nix’s stat line is pedestrian, he made the right read on pretty much every read option/RPO. This opened up the middle and allowed to gain 3-4 yards every run. I think these are the types of things that don’t show up in the stat line but tilted the scales towards Nix over Gatewood. Obviously speculation though.

2). KJ Britt is like a heat seeking missile. Dude just flies to the ball.

3) Wish we had some true edge rushers. This may be one of the things that keeps us from beating the Alabama’s and LSUs.

4) A&Ms receivers were for real. Couldn’t believe the catches they kept making. Our dbs were draped over them most of the time.

5) I thought our RBs played a good game. The committee approach had them fresh at the end, Boobie pressed the hole and bounced outside, etc.

2) I've been watching Auburn football for decades and this is the best tackling team we've ever had. They just do not miss open field tackles very often. Smoke missed one on the TD catch but that's the only 1 I can remember.

THIS

Go back and watch out early 2010's teams, the tackling is atrocious. Re-watching the AU/USC and AU/Oregon games from 2010 made me remember this. I cannot imagine how good we would have been with a legit defense.

I think that is speculation at best considering the QB’s were never live and able to really run the zone reads in the off-season. What supposedly separated the two was that Nix was apparently a more accurate passer.

Honestly, kudos to Mond for throwing darts the whole 2nd half. I kept thinking we were eventually going to get a pick because our coverage was good, and I believe against most other QB's we would have, but he just kept throwing dimes. Gotta tip your hat to that guy

A&M fans are saying they would’ve won with a “real QB” lol. They’re retarded.

When Jimbo Fisher said “we need to run the ball better,” I knew the game was over.

True. But going live isn’t the only way to learn how to make the right reads. Regardless, I like where we are with both of our QBs. We’ve got a true read option threat with both of them which is what our offense has to have.

Yea Mond wasn’t their issue. He made some pretty ridiculous throws and their receivers made some circus catches much like Tenn did last year. They lost because our DL and LB completely blew up there run game.
