40 Time: 4.88 seconds
Has Schmedding realized he's coaching LB's in the SEC and not the Mountain West?

Jesus guys is this just going to be a bitch and moan thread? He ran a 4.88 over a year ago when he was in 10th grade.

Auburn fans bitch and bellyache with the best of them.
I have never understood it myself........but it is what it is.

Auburn fans don't deal with change very well. They get upset at everything.

And the kid is STILL rated a 4*, so someone is rating him a very good player even with the 40 time. I bet he improves it anyway...
Quit complaining about our new coaches until we see their group play and after a couple of years of recruiting cycles....

My concern level on this staffs recruiting ability is going up.

I have to be honest.. When I first heard the name yesterday I looked at his 247 page and the 40 time was the first thing I noticed too lol. As everyone knows though, football speed and 40 speed are two different things, so today I watched a little film on him..
1st, Almost every highlight I saw was him running downhill. I saw 1 coverage play and a couple special teams plays.
2nd, Downhill he looks really good, good tackler and is looking to put a lick on some guys. There was a special teams play where he's on punt return.. He takes a couple steps back and just starts looking for someone to hit, finds a guy not paying attention and smokes him.
3rd, Good play recognition, at least when it comes to the run. Not enough passing plays/coverage on tape to just that part.
4th, The 1 coverage play I saw he had to run through traffic so you couldn't tell anything from it at all as far as closing speed, sideline to sideline etc.
5th, Even with that there we're a few times he did have to run east/west to make a tackle and he def didn't have the same speed and explosion he has when running downhill. This is a big question mark imo. Just need more film to know if he can do it.
I think KJ Britt is a pretty fair comparison. For as good as KJ was though he still had issues in coverage. I think the difference in 40 times is semi important, but the difference being this guy is still in high school.. I'm guessing KJ's time is from his pro day? If Blanton gets faster its a non issue, but if he doesn't I'm not sure he will be able to cover in the SEC.
I really don't understand why they did put any pass coverages in his highlights.. Hopefully more film of that pops up this year.

Care to explain? A good program builder coming in has to shore up the core and get the work ethic and good talent in. Don't care if they are 3*s or what. Did you happen to catch the super bowl this year? How many of those players were 5* when they were recruited? Compare that to the # of 3* on each team.

All of the star watchers may need to avoid recruiting over the next few years. This staff has said they never look at individual rankings. They look at their own evaluations and personality/fit for their program.

It is really quite funny. We've had coaches for the past decade really that use player rankings a lot (much more under chizik but Malzahn did as well) and we always complain about our players not performing, even though they are ranked well.
Now we have coaches that have said they don't give a shite about rankings, they will evaluate and decide what they want. More melts.
As i've said, Auburn fans can't handle change. It makes them very whiny.

I subscribe to this way of thinking too.
I still feel that we will get our share of high level recruits, but with a new staff and no built in relationships with HS coaches and players, then I don't feel we need to be worried or for sure complaining...

That's what every staff who doesn't get the big dogs says.

Jboy (yeah, I know) hinting at transfer news on Twitter. Maybe the safety from Vanderbilt?
Or he's just trying to plug another episode

And that's what every poster says that still doesn't know yet if this staff has gotten any big dogs, since recruiting isn't even ended..

While this sounds good, there's no way a coaching staff can go through ten of thousands of players. There has to be some filtering mechanism they use.
