I’m crazy for asking but without WR’s and an O-line, why would he come

Because they are making moves there as well. And again, hypothetically if he were to announce he was coming here, he's a big enough name that WR's and OL would likely follow suit. They are trying to bring in ~2-3 transfer OL already and Williams already has the Freshman WR from Oklahoma who is seemingly looking to follow him already.

J. Lee on Caleb Williams: Sources are optimistic, cautiously optimistic, but definitely optimistic. NOTHING is over until he shows up for class. But for now, Auburn feels it is in a pretty good spot. A few days ago he was basically telling people to stop getting their hopes up because it was a big longshot; so this is actually a pretty big shift.

I think jLee is just ‘shape shifting’
He’s saying it differently but saying the same thing.
I remember many recruiting battles for top players where it was said “we were in a good place” and every time we didn’t get our man.
I am glad we’re in the conversation but that is as far as I expect us to get w CW.

JLEE said if it was on the hot board he would put CW to AU at 55-60%

I don't even know what this means.

I'll reiterate it further: when the news popped about the OU dentist/former player claiming that Williams would enter the portal and that Auburn (of all places) had made a significant NIL offer, a bunch of people on the On3 board naturally started getting excited and making threads about him. At THAT point Jeff Lee started a thread basically telling everyone that they should expect Calzada and not to get worked up about Caleb Williams because he didn't see it as a strong possibility at all. Now, Calzada just committed (as expected - his name has been floating around for a while at QB for us) and he's doing a clear 180 on our chances with Williams from what he initially said, and really, it's even more shocking because we just got a transfer QB to commit. The 55-60% chance number he threw out still isn't overly high, but based off what he was saying before, he was probably sitting in the 10-15% range before when he made his first comment.

The reporting corroborates with multiple reports now from other people that they're not even done recruiting transfer QB's. I think they took Calzada because they like him enough to take, but they're making a real play for Williams (and I've heard this elsewhere as well - they're starting to jump into the NIL game it seems, and BTW it is believed that Tank got a significant NIL deal lined up which played into him reversing ship and staying here when it looked like he was out) and if they get him and lose Calzada, then so be it.

I can back up metafour here. I’ve been following this on On3 as well. This is all true.

jhead who was pretty pessimistic stated that auburn is definitely in it. I agree that Harsin feels like he might have gotten caught with his pants down only taking TJ last year. Didn’t want Calzada scared off if CW doesn’t come, got ZC on board so now all in with CW.

Can someone explain why Ga would pursue Willams, yes he is good. But their QB room...

Stetson sr, JT has a couple of years, but probably one and out and he wants to prove he can complete a season. They have a kid after him, I forget his name. Vandagraff who will be a soph and Gunner. Their room is perfectly set. They bring in Williams, JT probably could go pro, Vandagraff leaves.

Maybe its 4D chess, we are bidding up Williams, Kirby is worked into a froth and they get Willams...and we get our choice of their QBs on the cheap.

From everything I have read, the UGA insiders are all saying they have heard nothing about them pursuing Williams.

What I would like to know is what is being said on the Ole Miss side.

Rivals has a War Room up with an expected transfer commit this weekend and FL coach info. Anyone care to summarize?

I'd love to get Caleb Williams, and I would be thrilled our NIL program came far enough fast enough to make it happen. But if $1.5+ million is spent to do it, was that a wise investment? We have the RBs and TEs, but unless he has a proven OL and WR corp committed to come with him I think it's a bad idea. Even with the C from Cornell, G from Louisiana, and T from WKU I'd still worry. If we ended up being the first school to pay a QB multi millions and he busts, good luck ever doing it again.

It is not your money. Modern football is all about the QB. LSU had like the 18th recruiting class a year or two before getting Joe. Market dictates you have a QB. This is a barrier to entry you can't avoid.
