What justification are tPTB giving for sticking through this?

Is it strictly the buyout? It sure as hell can't be anything they've seen on the field. Stocking a depleted roster is one thing, but there has been ZERO progress in any facet of the game in a year and a half. It's blatantly obvious by now that he's not a good coach. This is beyond just wins and losses, it's how terrible we look in the wins and how absolutely atrocious we look in the losses consistently. Nothing is clicking. This is two different rosters that just haven't responded to Chad at all. Coaches have gotten fired for much less.

At this point, just fire him now and be done with it. Get an early start to the search.

He's completely checked out and the team is worse for it.

early start and search last time ended up with bert. dont give them too much opportunity to fuxk it up. start the talks and channeling and get the deal done before the search begins and end the search in 20 days or whatever is required by the state

Put Lunney in charge. We won't win any more games but he can at least coach TEs and special teams. That puts him well ahead of the rest of the field.

Start the coaching search now.

This. At least it might get the fans excited again.

We don't necessarily have to fire him to start looking for and talking to coaches. I think coaches and agents across the country are probably aware that he's not getting the job done and is a dead man walking.

Who cares if Morris finds out that we're shopping behind his back? Not only could we not get worse, but maybe it would inspire him to save face and actually resign.

These are desperate times.

I mean, Bert was a good hire. It didn't work out but pulling a successful P5 coach qualifies as a good hire for me.

Was literally just about to post this same thing. Make Lunney the interim for the rest of this godawful shitshow of a season.

At least he's an Arkansas guy who would give a damn and wouldn't sleepwalk through games with no pride.

Bert was the best hire on paper on a long time. We just weren't aware that most of that success was due to Wiscy's infrastructure instead of Bert's coaching.

No, he wasn't. Barry Alvarez made Wisconsin what it is. Bert couldn't even maintain it well without being micro-managed by Alvarez from the AD position.

Feelers should start to go out now. HY is not responsible for this hire but he is responsible for the continued down spiral. I would literally take anybody now, and see it as an improvement over Chad.

Bert was a major hire on paper, the national media gushed over it and often said we had made the best hire that offseason.

No reason to act like that wasn't the case just because we know how it ended. That's revisionist history.

Have to think that HY not hiring Chad makes him more likely to cut bait. Don't want to be dragged down by a guy you had no part in hiring.

But nobody knew that. He means on paper it was a good hire which it was on paper unlike hiring a head coach with a losing record

This gives a pretty sobering look at the current situation.

And still paying Bert 320k per mo through 2020.
Enjoy the suck.

Off paper, he was a drunk inheriting a program with few players for his system. All hires have been terrible since Petrino, but we have a history of making terrible hires.

Yes we no longer pay bert. Him getting a job with the Pat's cancelled that.
