Strong

Can someone explain to me why I keep seeing Strong's name? He's from Arkansas sure but he failed miserably at Texas. It'd be about as boring of a hire you could manage.

Yeah for always hearing we need Texas so bad I don't think it would be smart to get the guy that a lot of Texas hated and now love seeing that he failed.

Hiring Malzahn is the dumbest fricking move possible.
The last time he was on staff here we were in the SEC Championship game. This fanbase baffles me sometimes.

This is THE one, period. I know you don't put all your eggs in one coaching basket before the search has even commenced, but he should be the first call you make to the attainable candidates.

I say 'attainable' because a search done right should start with a few elite candidates you call just to poke the bear on the off chance you can get him to even listen (GUNDY), but fully expecting a solid no. There's another level after that where you really start the search with serious contenders. Norvell should be the first in that line.

Rich Rod was awesome at West Virginia. Should we hire him?

Texas HS coaches didn’t like him.

Hiring Strong doesn’t exactly get you “Texas ties.”

Texas HC is a different animal than us, Charlie was told what to do and where to go. It didn't work, he would do good here, depending on the AD that the committee chooses.

No but Gus will be a disaster.

This.

It would be a could hire for the current situation we are in.

Give him 5 year contract and if it's a complete shite show in year 3 still then can him and move on again.

We're at rock bottom, can only improve either way

Hmm. We could hire Gus who would be able to recruit skill players in Texas for his style of offense, or hire the guy who was a huge embarrassing failure in Texas who nobody wanted to play for. Tough call!

After today I can see sweater vest wearing doofus on our sideline, winning 6-9 games every year and the Gus lovers salivating about the "style of play", wait til next year shite.

9 game you say? That sounds like an improvement over -

Winning 4-7 games every year and the FatBert lovers salivating about the "style of play", wait til next year shite.

I'm no Gus fan, but it's going to be HARD not to drastically upgrade no matter who walks through that door.
FatBert has been an utter fricking disaster, hired by another fricking disaster.

Agreed, which is why I always find it confusing when we are comparing Gus to Bert. Should be comparing Gus to the other realistic candidates. Is anyone on this board still defending Bert?

Only if he can bring Khalil Tate with him.

Personally, I’d love to see what Whaley, Hayden and Hammonds could do in Gus’ offense. You have all the pieces in the backfield to be good right out of the gates in that system. Assuming the line can learn to block again with actual coaching.

STOP IT

We aren't in the business of simply "better than Bert." This isn't about Malzahn specifically, but this mentality is what will/already has poisoned the well in the UofA football program. We're better than "just good enough" and the fans need to start acting like it, because Jeff Long would probably still have a job if the PTB felt that way.

I'm still trying to figure out what Norvell has done.

Not two full seasons at Memphis where he has just maintained what Justin Fuente(Sp) built up.
