just so we're all clear. we all agree mike Anderson is the more established and qualified coach while Chris beard is a questionable up and comer right.

Anderson: 349–181 (.658) at UAB, Mizzou, and Arkansas.
Beard: 70-25 (.737) at frickin UALR and Texas Tech, or 134-49 (.732) if you want to include Angelo State and McMurray as well.
Mike has done less with more, and at better programs. He's been around longer, so I guess you could say he's more established, but you have to remember 2 weeks ago we were questioning if we would even make the tourney. With this roster, that's flat out ridiculous. This 6 of 7 run we've been on has been pretty improbable based on how we played up until a few weeks ago. It's completely possible we can go on a run and make it deep into the tourney. It's also possible we get bounced the first game we play in the SECt and also the NCAA. Consistency is just not a thing with MA.
I could forgive a lot with semi regular sweet 16s and we've won plenty of games since MA has been here. But watching us play is just enfuriating at times. Stupid decisions, nonexistent play calling/scheming, Hell, the other night against Auburn, we were pushing the ball up the court as fast as we could go, jacking up ridiculous 3s with a full play clock, until we had about 3 minutes left and Macon finally pulled up and walked the ball down the court. It never felt like the game was in control, even though we were up almost 20 at one time. They would go on a run, while we went on a scoring drought, then we'd wake up and respond, which is something we haven't done much of this year. Was a welcome change, lets just hope it keeps up through the end of our season.
If you actually watch the games, it's pretty apparent we're leaving plenty on the table. That's what drives a portion of the fan base (the MA "haters") crazy. We take what should be good-great teams and make them OK-good teams, while Beard, in his 6 years as a head coach, appears to take dog shite and turn it into great teams at a pretty decent rate. Where would Beard have us if he was coach this year? Think we could've done the unthinkable and beat LSU at least once?
And for the record, Mike has made this a solid season for us. It was looking pretty questionable for a bit, but I'm happy with it as of now. But if we no-show the SECt and/or the NCAAt, his seat needs to be red-hot going into next year, and we all know next year will not be a cake walk.
We're not going to have a better opportunity to make a deep run for a while. If he doesn't do it now, he's probably not going to.

quote:Pretty much the tl;dr of my point. It's year 7 and this is the culmination of his recruiting the past few years. Next year is without a doubt a rebuild. Year 8 is not going to be special. So if he's not going to do it this year, how long are we supposed to wait for a team that can finish even within the top 16?

thanks for making my point. Anderson hasnt coached as many games as mike Anderson has lost....and at over 60%wins it's not like he's just piling up loses

even no d1 included. he hasn't coaches as many games as mike Anderson has lost. so yeah oretty much just some dude Texas tech would take a flyer on. we can get him from tech if we wanted him but Anderson is setting us up pretty well so far this year

They're probably about to achieve something Mike Anderson is incapable of.

You are doubling down just praying this team isn't in fact back on track and headed to a Sweet 16 or better.

Now we're going to probably have a decent showing in the SEC tourney depending on matchups then we'll enter the dance and get smashed by the first team we face with guards of similar or larger size that can break a press. Our guards will respond to this by holding onto the ball and completely stagnating our offense. We'll jack up outside shots and take stupid contested layups in traffic until the clock hits 0 and we'll be back here wondering where it all went wrong.
I promise I'm not psychic.
