Per the Twitter machine and various message boards. Probably a fitting end to a very strange career here.

Geez. I truly wish Rakeem all the best but I hate the opt out thing.

If I'm an NFL scout I would move any player that opted out way down on my board, unless they had a very good reason for doing so.

This opting out thing has really shown who the quitters are.

Probably the right decision for him. Best of luck

He probably played himself out of the draft. He doesn't seem like he really put in the effort this year.

I just never felt like he was fully healthy tbh. He didn't have that burst he had last year.

It was more than just injuries, it looked as if he just didn't have the confidence and wanted to move on from here.

It was alot of the system/scheme as well, he would have done much better in a more "traditional" offense

Super lame if true.

Needs to give up that jersey and very clearly still has the Chaggie mentality.

Finish out the year man, why taint your legacy doing something like this.

Childish for someone who is 22-23.

He's a man among boys, was supposed to be a leader. Looks like a quitter.

I hate this phrase. It's bullshite. Just call it what it is: Quitting

I don't blame him though. Has had a terrible go of it this year and been passed up by Smith. Good luck to him. He was one of the only bright spots in a very dark couple of years.

Good luck to him. Honestly, it's a bad look to quit with only a couple of games left or so we were told when Petrino quit Atlanta.

Honestly, I don't care. If he feels like he has nothing left to contribute then I'm sure Smith would love the additional carries.

And if you call it quitting they say you're bashing players.

All of this. If he doesn't want to be here and his heart isn't in it, I'd rather he just leave than half-arse it on the field.

Probably beat out by Trelon Smith and lost his spot.

Definitely has been beat in play.

Yep. If it wasn't, Hootie wouldn't have been allowed back in the state
